Chapter 01: A New Beginning

''Do you hate this place?''

''I don't really care.''

''But, if you could be wherever you wanted, you wouldn't be here, right?''

''What does it matter? This is where I should be.''

''But you don't like it.''

''I can't do much. I'm stuck here.''

''What if I told you that...you aren't?''

It was a rather cloudy day. Undyne parked her car outside the tall, gray building. The sign outside spelled ''Lionnite University Research Center''. There was another sign below, almost as big as the first one. ''A kind donation by Mettaton''. Undyne opened up her window and started reading her manga while waiting outside.

-What are you studying there? Sans suddenly appeared next to her.

Undyne got so surprised she threw the manga away.

-Gosh darn it Sans, why do you ALWAYS do this?

-I saw you from the entrance. Sorry, couldn't help myself! he chuckled. So, was that manga you were reading any good?

-I-I-I-I wasn't reading manga!!! Undyne blushed. Mangas are for dorks!!!

-Oh, come on Undyne! I've read a few of them as well, they aren't that bad! Don't worry about it!

-A-At any rate! Where's Alphys?

-Oh, yeah. She still has some chores to run before she leaves. I didn't know you were picking her up today.

-Yeah, the gym is closed so I figured, why let her take the bus if I could come myself?

-You guys on a strike or something?

-Nah, we're getting the walls painted, so I'll have a couple of days off.

-Ah, the smell of fresh paint!

-You weirdo... Want a ride home as well?

-Thanks for the offer, but I have my scooter with me! Can't leave it here.

-I understand. Nice seeing you, Sans!

-Smell ya later! And go back to your manga, I won't surprise you again! Promise!

As Sans walked away, Undyne stopped him.

-Hey, Sans...

-What's up?

-Since you came to this Lab... Alphys has made a lot of progress...

-Yeah, two genius minds are better than one! Sans winked.

-No, I don't mean that! I mean...she has been able to socialise more with her colleagues... Before you came, she was always stressed every morning when she left for work... But now, she seems to have cheered up a lot! And she told me you're helping her out in this...so thankyou! I love seeing her more positive and cheerful.

Undyne gave Sans a warm smile. He smiled back.

-Don't even mention it. She's a dear friend of mine. Of course I'd help her out. Oh, speak of the devil...there she is! Over here, Alphys!!!

Sans waved at Alphys, who had just exited the Research Center. When she saw them, she ran towards them happily.

-Hey, Undyne! How come you're visiting?
