hah finally
the long-awaited sequel to <sleep>i don't have a plot for this so it's gonna be (somewhat) short
~~~
Okay, he had nothing to freak out about.
Nothing except the fact that his crush (and possibly the love of his life) has woken up from a very, very, very long coma.(It wasn't that long, but it felt like it.)
And the fact that he finally felt ready to confess, but Shoto came first.
(Shoto always came first.)
~~~
It wasn't surprising that Shoto was surrounded by people- he'd just woken up from an almost week-long coma.
It still pissed Bakugou off, though."Hey," Shoto says, loose bandages wrapped around his head. The bandages don't detract at all from the way his smile completely dazzles (and fries) Bakugou's brain.
"Hey," Bakugou manages, which, in itself is a miracle. "I- uh, heard you woke up."
"Yeah," Shoto says, "Midoriya was just telling me how often you came by to visit."
Bakugou curses silently.
"I was worried," he admitted, and suddenly becomes hyperaware of the other people in the room.Shoto seems to notice, because he then says, "Can I have a moment alone with Bakugou?"
Who would deny an injured person such a small request? Of course, they all left the room after that.
Leaving Bakugou and his crush alone.
He inwardly curses (again)."So you were worried?"
"...Yeah, asshole."
Shoto laughs, and Bakugou is pretty sure Shoto has the nicest laugh in the entire world. (Other peoples' laughs don't make his stomach flip, do they?)
"Don't do it again, okay?"
"Do what?" Shoto seems genuinely confused, and Bakugou realizes he's the only one who's been reliving the moment over and over again.
"You- just jumped in front of me," he says, and his voice is oddly unstable. "Fucker fired some missile thingy, you could've just called my name or something."
Shoto's face turns serious. "I was afraid you wouldn't dodge in time."
Bakugou knows the feeling- he knows Shoto knows he has superhuman reflexes- Shoto's seen it firsthand during the sports festival and pretty much every time they spar, but he knows if the villain attacked Shoto, he wouldn't even have time to think.
(It was reflex, no thinking involved.)
"I would have been fine," he says anyway."I would do it again," Shoto says unexpectedly. "I would do it again every time."
Bakugou remembers seeing Shoto's body lying unconscious on the ground, the bandages covering his head, the pale green hospital walls that he'd seen every day for a whole week.
"No," he says. "Don't ever do it again."Shoto doesn't say anything, but he doesn't have to.
Bakugou knows reflex isn't a thing you can control better than anyone.~~~
"I'm released from the hospital tomorrow," Shoto announces on the next visit.
"Are they sure it's okay for you to do hero training? They know the school you attend, right? Not exactly a great place for recovery."
"I'm alright now," Shoto insists. "I recovered- I slept for seven whole days, Bakugou."
"Not slept," Bakugou corrects. "You were in a coma. There's a difference."
"I've been in the same bed for a week," Shoto argues. "I'm very ready to get out of here."
"You shouldn't do all the training, though."
"You're worrying too much. I'm training to be a hero, heroes get injured all the time."
Bakugou knows that. He knows that very well. He's seen the bandages (not scarves) on Mr. Aizawa after the USJ villain attack, he's seen the chaos and destruction the villains have caused.
But this time, it was Shoto.
"I thought I lost you," Bakugou admits. "I was scared.""You were scared?"
"I was so fucking terrified, Todoroki-"
"Okay," Shoto relents. "I'll take it easy, but I missed a week of class. I need to catch up."
Bakugou finds this silly; Shoto's a prodigy- missing a week won't make a dent in his grades. But he's happy Shoto is listening, at least.
~~~
On the third visit, Bakugou drives him home.
(Shoto was surprised he could drive 'didn't you just turn sixteen?' were his exact words. But driving is something Bakugou is a natural at, like many other things in life.)Finally, after a long silence, Bakugou decides to get it over with.
(Like ripping off a bandaid, he reassures himself.)
"I have a crush on you," he says."Oh, I thought that was obvious already?" Shoto doesn't even seem surprised.
"What?"
"You visited every day, you were more worried than my own sister, you insisted on driving me home," Shoto counts on his fingers. "You were pretty obvious."
"Thats-" Bakugou can't even object.
"Are you going to ask me out now?"
"That's not how this works," Bakugou says, "but sure, okay. Go out with me?"
"My answer is yes, by the way." Shoto grins. "Every time."
