A free-verse poem that tells the story of Shoto.

katsuki is a dragon shifter/barbarian king

~~~
The sky
Is dark,
A maroon, mahogany color.
Today,
We're killing
A dragon.
~~~

Scales as hard as diamonds,

Teeth as sharp as knives.

Claws the size of swords,

Horns as long as tree branches.

You think you can kill a dragon?

~~~
Hundreds of soldiers,
Fighters,
Mercenaries,
Gather under a single
Large
Rock.
Three people,
The organizers,
The galvanizers,
The leaders
Of the rest,
Stand,
High above
Everyone else.
It's almost
Like saying,
We're better than you are,
Stay right where you are.
Where you
Deserve
To be.
~~~

The hunt

Starts

In ten minutes.

Get ready,

Prepare

To lay down

Your life

For your people.

~~~
My throwing knives are sharp,
Clean, silvery.
Not yet covered
In blood.
I pack
An extra medical kit,
Just in case.
I guess it won't matter,
Though,
If I die.
~~~

Lay down your life

For your country.

Sacrifice yourself

For your king.

Be prepared

To die

Today.
