day three: betrayal

It's a mild form of betrayal because I dislike unhappy parts-

Shoto and Katsuki are friends, if you ask Shoto. At least, until Katsuki blatantly says otherwise behind his back.
~~~
He and Katsuki have a comfy daily routine, according to Shoto.
They tolerate each other, and Shoto is one of the (very) few people that Katsuki doesn't necessarily yell at on a daily basis.
(They still don't eat together at lunch, nor hang out when they don't have to, but Shoto's okay with that, for now.)
Katsuki is an interesting person, and Shoto doesn't think he's half as bad as some people make him out to be. (Sure, he yells a lot and is generally pretty angry, but he's still set on saving lives, and has never actually hurt anyone outside of a sparring match, so he can't be that bad.)
Plus, (even though Katsuki probably doesn't notice that Shoto notices) Katsuki always packs extra lunch for his friends, who forget things almost regularly.
Hence, he can't be all bad.
(The fact that he's strong, smart, and also superhumanly pretty is also a plus.)
~~~

"Are you and Bakugou friends?" One day, in the middle of lunch, Uraraka pipes up.

Honestly, Shoto doesn't know how to answer. "I- don't know?" He's never really confirmed with Bakugou, or even thought about it at all. "Why?"

"He seems- less angry at you than everyone else," Uraraka says, and Shoto figures that's a valid reason.

"Kacchan definitely likes you better than most people," Midoriya agrees, shuddering subtly.

"Bakugou doesn't hate you," is all Asui has to say.

~~~
"Bakugou, are we friends?"
"Hah?!" Katsuki off small explosions, and Shoto is pretty sure they were accidental, having caught one of his workbook pages on fire.
"Midoriya asked, and I didn't know how to answer."
"The fuck? Why the hell does Deku care? Tell him to fuck off next time-"
"Are we friends, though?"
"No fucking way-" Katsuki pauses, and he must see the crestfallen expression that Shoto's making, reflecting his inner disappointment.
"Alright," Shoto says, and he hopes he doesn't sound too sad, or pathetic.
"We- fucking shit- we're acquaintances, okay?"
"Okay," Shoto says, because acquaintances are a step up from being 'not at all friends'.
(He's still sad, though, and Katsuki probably can see that.)
~~~

"Icyhot, spar with me." It wasn't a question or a request at all, it was a demand. (Then again, when did the Katsuki Bakugou request things?)

So yes, they sparred.

It didn't help that Shoto was distracted almost the whole time, and his question halfway through (Does this mean we're friends?) distracted Katsuki, as well.
Their fight was sloppy, and ended in a two-way headlock (don't ask me how) with Aizawa calling time-out.

"Fuck," Katsuki announces out of the blue. "That sucked."

Shoto nods, unsure if Katsuki is talking to him.

"Do you-" Katsuki hesitates a little. "Do you want to come to my room later?" When Shoto is silent (from shock) he adds, "to compare notes on techniques, because our quirks are similar, I mean."
