Hello everyone, I'm SO SORRY for kinda just dropping this fic. I've been having the worst few months and this had completely slipped my mind until now, and even worse is that I met a writers block a little bit through writing, so hopefully you still enjoy it regardless.
Please stay safe, and I hope you enjoy.
⚠️SMUT WARNINGGGG. YOUVE BEEN WARNED⚠️
Meredith's POV
Since that night in the bathroom, Addison hasn't mentioned it since, or hardly anything at all. I could feel her words waiting at the tip of her tongue, but they never came. I knew her family was a sensitive topic, but now even more so.
I could tell she wanted her space, by the way she hardly ever looked at me or spoke to me, during our entire 5 hour flight. And whenever she did, she asked for me to stand up, or move my legs, or reach over and grab her something.
I knew there was nothing I could do, but wait until the storm passed.
Once we arrived at her house, she dropped her bags and went upstairs. I assumed she was using the bathroom, so I decided to make dinner for her, in case she was hungry.
Once I'd laid out two portions of pasta, I realized she was still upstairs. I'd hoped she was sleeping off the exhaustion from flying, but I had a sinking feeling that she wasn't.
I go up the stairs and find her bedroom, where I could hear a faint snivelling from behind the door.
I knock. "Addie? Are you okay?"
I don't receive an answer, so I crack the door open, just a bit.
Addison was laying on her bed, facing away from me, in the exact clothes she wore on the plane. Her shoulders were shaking just slightly, and then they stopped.
She must've heard me, because she turns to look at me with a tear-stained face. She looks at me awhile before telling me to leave.
"You haven't eaten since yesterday, maybe that would help..."
"I said 'get out!'" She yelled, chucking a pillow in my general direction. I shut the door and grab my bowl of pasta so I could wait out whatever this was.
An hour later, I warm up her now cold bowl of food and bring it upstairs to her.
She was dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants this time, neither of which I had seen her wear before.
"Are you ready to talk now?" I ask her, setting down her food. She shakes her head and doesn't reach for the bowl.
"Please, Addison. Whatever's going on, you can tell me."
She looks up at me and I can see the tiredness in her eyes. The years of hurt are visible everywhere I look now. I feel helpless, all I can do is give her a hug.
She stays still for a moment with my arms around her, and suddenly breaks down crying after a few minutes.
"I-I am the youngest neonatal surgeon to be double-board certified. I am among the highest paid surgeons in this entire country. B-but none of that matters because he still makes me cry like I'm 10 years old," she mutters, sobbing into the crook of my neck.
