Sapnap's pov

When I was young, my mom told me I was special. She told me that my eyes could change colour and all sorts of things. My dad, on the other hand, never spoke to me. My parents always fought, but I wasn't sure why since I was about three at the time. Two years later, my dad left. No goodbye, no letters, no calls, no texts. My mom was devastated, of course, as one would be when the love of their life leaves without saying a word. I didn't care, I stayed happy because my mom cheered me up even at times when she was sad. She gave me everything I wanted in life, and made sure I was never upset at anything. She told me my happiness was insanely important and I never understood why...until last year.

At around 2016, I met Dream. We played a shit ton on Hypixel and he became a close friend of mine very quickly. I was always scared of losing Dream as a friend, I was afraid I'd say something wrong and make him hate me. Of course, that never happened. He understood whatever I felt and was very patient with me. I was just scared, sometimes sad, but not angry. 2020 came, Dream and I moved into a house together. Now we were both living in Orlando, while my mom stayed in the same house in Miami.

Now, fast-forward to last year, 2021. My mom was growing older. She'd call less and part of me thought she'd stopped caring. I love my mom but she didn't tell me things I wish I knew before. When I visited her back in Miami, my whole life turned upside down. Dream voluntarily decided to send me there on Saturday morning and pick me back on Sunday night. It's Sunday evening and she brought up something I always wanted to know.

"Son, do you know why I always wanted to make you happy?"

I shook my head "no" but smiled.

"It's because you have a gift," she said softly, "but it would only appear when you aren't happy."

The last bit confused me.

"What gift, what do you mean?"

"What's your favourite element?" She over-questioned.

"Fire," I answered with no hesitation.

"When you were young, you loved playing with fire, you weren't scared of it and it wouldn't hurt you," she explained. "Remember when I told you that your eyes could change colour?"

"Yeah, you said it changes to orange."

"That's the colour of fire. Only one in a billion people have a gift and when your power shows, your eyes hint it first by changing it's colour."

This is where I might've gotten a little bit upset.

"H-how do I control it, why didn't you tell me this before?" I asked.

"Because you were still young, son," said my mother. "It takes time to have control over a gift and you weren't ready."

"How do you know I wasn't ready? How did you know about this in the first place?"

"Your father shouted at you once when you were younger and your hand lit on fire but it didn't burn you. That's when I knew, so I did some researching and your gift is controlled by anger."

"My hand lit on fire out of nowhere? Wait, so your saying my hand just sets itself on fire?!"

"I can see it," she smiled.
