Ayanfeoluwa POV

It's one thing to be a black woman, it's another thing to be a Nigerian and it's a totally a different thing when you are living in a white man country.
Long ago before civilization, a black woman's office is her home. Her sole duty is to provide cooked meals, healthy children and keep the home running.
Well good thing is that changed. Women can now do something for themselves but it's still restricted.
It's kind of odd to find a woman so great and self established with her roots deep into the soil. I didn't want to be like every other woman, I wanted to do something out of my league and make a name for myself and earn respect.
My parents were concerned about my extreme dreams but they understood me so I did a little digging and found out that my uncle was the one who could help me.
I started asking questions about him from my father and he was willing to tell me about him.
My uncle wasn't really the one to sit his ass in one country.
He was more of a traveler and that was what drew me to him, I got in contact and he offered me a place right by his side.
That was when my dad got in my way, it was obvious he didn't want me to take that offer, I argued and rebelled but he wasn't giving in so I kept up with my life back in Nigeria and got a degree, got a job and got married to a man that understood my dreams and feelings. He was the best I could ask for.
He was happy to help me get whatever I wanted even though I didn't really know what exactly I wanted to do.
Now that I was married and out of my parents house my dad didn't really have a say in my life anymore, my husband did. So I got back to my uncle and accepted his offer.
He was in Ireland as at that time so I went to Ireland first and left my husband behind in Nigeria.
Wasn't really my first choice but I wanted to have a stand here before bringing my husband down here to live with my uncle.
I and my uncle got close but when he said a place right next to me he didn't tell me it was just touring around the world and winning cases in court for rich people. He's a lawyer so that's what he does but anytime he explained his work he made sure to add the rich people.
It was like explaining how he gets a lot of money to fund traveling around.
I decided to stay back with him and we went around together, I suggested getting a job in line with what I studied in school but he didn't want me out there.
He wanted me to always be by his side and when I declined he said I could be his personal assistant.
It was catchy, I get to still travel around and work so I accepted. I did that for three years and we also visited Nigeria once in a while so my marriage was still standing.
Three years with him and that made me and my uncle tight. We weren't just family but partners. We trusted each other and had each other's back and that was when my uncle decided that I shouldn't just be by his side but work by his side. That was when my husband had to come to us.
And there and then, I knew everything and why my father didn't want me to come in the first place.

Two years ago
"Uncle, what do you mean about this? You told me you were a lawyer who loved to travel. What is this that you're saying?"
I was confused and out of it, trying to piece every information together.
"Ayanfe mi, calm down and let me explain. I wouldn't have asked you to come here if I didn't know you were up for it and would understand"
I looked at the man I looked up to and saw as a second father. I respected him but this was the last thing I thought about him but if I respected it was for a reason so I sat down in the chair opposite his table and waited for him to explain. He sighed in relief and rest his back in his chair.
"Before you were born, your grandfather died and it was hard on the family, we were settling his properties and sharing it amongst the family like his will stated but the lawyer called a meeting with me and your father without our mother. He told us that your grandfather had an international business and he wanted your father to take over since he was the eldest and I would assist him with it, we thought it was a small business and we were ready for it but we didn't know it was beyond us, bigger that us and even unrealistic."
He took a deep breath and leaned on the table to look me in the eye.
" He was running a big organization that spread across our continent and beyond. Ayanfe, it wasn't just a company that involved a suit, tie and pen. It involved our lives and his own"
I was starting to get confused at this time, he was speaking in parables that I didn't understand.
"What do you mean?"
"Ayanfe, what I'm about to tell you would change you, the way you see things and the way you would do things. Are you ready?"
"Yes uncle"

Present Day
Looking back at where I started from and where I am today has showed me how much I have achieved. None of these would be here today if I didn't take a huge step that changed my life and that of my generation.
My new friend/ neighbor reminds me of who I was two years ago before I stumbled upon revolution.

My family's revolution.
"Babe, what do you think about her?" I asked my husband when he stepped out of the bathroom.
"I think she reminds me of a certain person with so much determination to conquer the world. But do you trust her?"
I made my way to him and wrapped my hands around his torso.
"Do you trust me?"
"I do my Queen, go ahead"
