It'a not that Ayato is being ungrateful for his peaceful days after the whole burglary fiasco, but he missed it when his mind is occupied for most of the time. Now all he could think is whether he is supposed to send a letter to Yae Miko, or wait until they meet tomorrow, after her plan worked out.
He doesn't want to look like a desirous man who couldn't even live without her because it's been only three days since their meeting in Chinju forest. Ayato wished in his heart that he could just forget about the matter and bury himself with his job. However, wiping out that kitsune from his mind is getting harder by each time he tried to do so.
A polite knock from his door wakes Ayato up. He hid his scribbles about the Fatui from the table to a drawer. It was a bad distraction because it stress him out. And now, a guest could be the perfect distraction for him.
"Come in."
Long strand of hair shows up with a pair of bright blue eyes. Ayaka slides his door so narrow that only half of her head could be seen "Are you busy, brother?"
"Not really, I don't have any important schedule this afternoon. Do you have anything to say?"
She walks in and sat before Ayato and from the look of her eyes, she wanted something.
"Um, I know we already did our letter-reading yesterday, but I felt like the letters were not so exciting." Ayaka gazed at him with her expectant eyes, which is making her too hard to refuse "If you have the time, can we do another letter reading today?"
It's true that Ayaka seems disappointed after reading his letters from yesterday's mailbox. What could she expect from a Commissioner urgent mailbox other than governmental stuffs? She shouldn't have too much hope to find anything fun.
Yet, Ayato couldn't refuse her request. He badly needs a distraction of any kind, so his mind won't wander around to guess why the Guuji has not invited him for another meeting after their last encounter.
"Sure. But most of my letters are already opened, so you only have few ones that just arrived." he pointed to his mailbox at the side buffet of the room "It's right there."
"Thank you." Ayaka didn't take long until the box arrived at his messy table- which is now more chaotic because there is a box that occupies almost half of it's surface. She took the first one from the mailbox and starts unsealing the envelope with a small opener.
"Ready?" she took the paper inside without unfolding it. Maybe it was a question for herself.
"Anytime you are."
"Here we go." Ayaka opened the first letter and her eyes goes wide "It's from Thoma."
Ayato smiled, almost looks like a bitter one instead of a warm smile "So he still remembered us."
"Hey, at least he sent us a letter."
"Just read what he has to say."
Ayaka clears her throat before she begin reading the first word "To the most precious siblings in the world, Ayato and Ayaka-"
"Did he really wrote that?"
"No interrupting." She reprimanded him with her cold glare, and she continued with her affectionate voice "I'm so sorry that I just wrote you both now. The regulations for my hideaway are pretty strict, that I couldn't make any written contact with you both sooner. Otherwise, everything is fine here and I hope you both didn't starve to death, because nobody reminded you to take your food."
Ayato frowns "What are we in his eyes, children?"
"No interrupting." Ayaka glares at him again but her focus remains with the letter "I'm truly sorry that I couldn't help much with the recent case about our retainer. I hope the condition gets better soon so we can be reunited again. With lots of homesickness, Thoma."
