"You must be joking, Three."

"Why would I?" you grimace. "It wouldn't benefit me."

"Have you seen it?" he asks with passion, his eyes glowing vividly.

His hand flaws the wall's bricks next to your head, and you move away from his arm.

The man sits back when he realizes he startled you, forcing calmness on himself.

"I only saw where it is, before waking up," you say. "But it's better. I didn't fight to reach Laugh Tale, so I don't deserve to see it."

"You're a living key to the One Piece," he whispers, and you shiver as his voice shakes.

He brushes your hair behind your ear gently, leaning closer to you. Your heart beats faster as his grin shows up. His gaze still shines with a dim light of desire.

As his fingers accidentally claw your skin, you say his name frightenedly.

Kid snaps back to reality, and he lets go of your head, his eyes clear.

"I wouldn't be the King of the Pirates if I cut down my journey," he says silently. You finally breathe out, and the trembling of your hands stops. "Maybe Kaido doesn't give a fuck, but I do. I'll find Laugh Tale on my own."

"There aren't many who think so," you answer, lost in thoughts. "My ability... shouldn't exist."

Kid smiles, and you see his tense jawline relaxing. He looks away from your face, taking a deep breath.

The man closes his eyes and clenches his fist.

"If you told Kaido, my dream would be over. Everything I fought for," he whispers. His lips form a thank you even if he doesn't say it. "If it weren't you, I would kill anyone who knows."

"Why me?"

"Because I believe that you shut your mouth," grins Kid. "You're afraid of me, of them, but you still kept the secret. You won't give it up."

"I'm not afraid of you."

"You flinch whenever I make a bad move," he scoffs. "But it's good. When you got here, you accepted death, so you didn't care about me. Your fear shows that you want to live now."

"Then why aren't you scared too?" you ask.

Eustass leans back and scratches his nape. You notice how he moves his incomplete arm like someone who still isn't used to its missing.

He looks back at you, and his upper lip twitches, revealing his fangs for a second.

"I am scared," says Kid, and you frown as you hear it. "But differently. I'm scared of being too weak to protect my crew. I already failed once. That's how I ended up here."

"You look strong."

"I am fucking strong, but not enough," he smirks. "So I will be. I won't let anything happen to them again."

"Why are you telling this to me?"

"You'll fight with me, Three. I told you," he answers. "Both here and out of Wano. You said you won't rot here, so I'll take you out to the sea."

You watch him with disbelief.

"You make no sense, Kid."

The man laughs and goes back to the edge of light and darkness, farther from you.

He lays on his back, his amber eyes fixed on the ceiling.

"You've been protecting the One Piece all by yourself," he says, resting his head on his arm. "You deserve to see it, so I'll give you a chance."
