Cameera watched as the man in the suit rushed down the hall. Her lips turned into a twisted smile as she walked down the other hallway to her office. How perfectly unfair life was, to endanger the life of a small child... The thought made Cameera's heart flutter with excitement. The thought of losing something that precious was just so unbearable. Cameera got her smile under control as she approached a few coworkers, no one would understand her feelings; no one ever did. She was alone in the world... well, except for her father. He understood her work, or at least, he claimed he did. Cameera never told anyone all the facts, it often got her in trouble in school, but so what? She graduated with top marks, so it couldn't have been that big of a deal.
"Good day, Dr. Abacus," a short, plump woman stated behind a small desk.
"Hello, Angie," Cameera used her practiced smile as she walked by, her white coat shifting as she moved.
Cameera's eyes scanned the hallway before she ducked into her office. She quickly logged in to her computer and opened a small tab that only she could access. The title: "Robin Smith." A true smile played at Cameera's lip as she scanned the file, her lovely little girl that had so much potential... Is this what a parent felt like when they marked their child's achievements? Everyday, it was routine, Cameera would come back from lunch and check on Robin, she placed a pacer in her heart so she could tell when Robin was in trouble. Within the past two days it had gone off more than it had in two years. Something wasn't right, Cameera could feel it and it made her stomach knot. If she had to, she could find a way to bust Robin out of trouble. She was almost her mother after all, even if Robin was only twenty years younger. Cameera raised Robin, she made her special, even if Robin didn't know it yet. A knock sounded on the door and Cameera shut the tab.
"Yes?" her own sweet voice made her feel nauseous, it was exhausting pretending in front of these cretins all day.
A young man in blue scrubs popped his head in, "Dr. Abacus, there is a patient for you in room 174."
"Ah, thank you..." her eyes scanned his nametag, "Andrew, I will be there in a few minutes. I just need to finish a few things," a smile stretched over her face.
Andrew nodded and left as quickly as he came. Her smile faded as she turned back to her computer. She wrote a quick note on a small pad of paper and stuck it to the side of her computer before she stood and left her office.
"Check on the bird."
.........
Robin looked around the small town home.
"I am staying here?"
Wisteria nodded and smiled, her teeth almost blinding white.
"Yep! The MDA decided that you should stay at one of their safe houses so we can keep an eye on you and make sure that if we need you, you'll be accessible."
Robin briefly nodded before moving on to a small kitchen.
"This is pretty nice... but what about my roommate? We weren't close, but I haven't been home in a few days so...?"
"Ah, don't worry your pretty little head about that. We collected your things and gave an excuse to your roommate, so you will be safe here, and only the MDA and yourself knows about this. Unfortunately, you can't leave unless your guard goes with you. He will be staying with you here as well. There are three rooms so you will both have your privacy."
"Wait.. guard... you mean Chase!?!" Robin's eyes grew wide as Wisteria nodded and giggled.
"Yes! Aren't you lucky? His accent is so cute!" Wisteria giggled again.
