Nothing to Need

As Mabel and I sprinted towards the noise, my mind began to wander. I thought about what I told Mabel, what if she wasn't a Dreamer, and I told a human all about us! Not now, I thought desperately, I needed to focus on saving this person. We reached a clearing, and I noticed some of the grass was trampled over. It was as if someone was stumbling around, like they were struggling.

"This way," I said, following the trampled grass. It lead to an area with dense trees.

"Look over there!" Mabel said, pointing to a tall tree shaped like a cradle. I looked close, there was a girl lying in it. She began to groan softly, then began to thrash about. She screamed,

"Help! Help! They got me! They got me!" Over and over. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I ran over there and shook the low branch she was resting loudly in.

"Snap out of it!" I yelled to her. Surprisingly, she stopped moving and her eyes fluttered open. She took one look at me, then screamed and shoved me out of the tree. "Oomph," I said as I fell backwards.

"Hey," Mabel said, "You don't push people out of trees! That's not nice!" She started to walk to me and helped me up. She scowled at the girl.

"I'm sorry," the girl said, "You just surprised me, that's all." She smiled sheepishly. "I'm Adaline." I stared at her, she looked familiar. That long, curly, brown hair, her golden brown eyes, where have I seen her? I thought, puzzled. Then it snapped,

"You where in Nowhere!" I yelled at her. She jumped in surprise, then began to scowl.

"So you recognized me?" she sneered, "I expected you not to." Her gold eyes began to darken.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused at her sudden change of tone. She sneered again,

"Well, that night, in Nowhere, you left me. Alone. With the creatures chasing me." I gaped at her,

"No, I never did that. I wouldn't, ever, leave anyone alone in Nowhere."

"Well," She scoffed, "You did." I sighed, placing my hand on her shoulder.

"Look, Adaline, I never ment to leave you, I was confused myself. I'm sorry." She gasped, her mouth wide open. Then where I was touching her shoulder, she began to smoke. The black smoke curled off of her shoulders and around my fingers, slowly taking a shape. She collapsed, once the smoke stopped, and fell into me. "Adaline, are you okay?!" I yelled at her surprised. Then I felt a cold hand on my shoulder, I slowly turned around. My eyes met a figure made of dark fog, they stepped forward and began to take a more solid shape. I stared, terrified at what I saw. "Who.." I stuttered, "Who are you?" They just chuckled, a devilish grin plastered on thier face.

"I'm just No One, here, there, Nowhere, Somewhere, I am No One." He paused, "Anywhere." I gaped, confused. "Now, my sweet Everleigh, I think I will be going now." He laughed and disappeared into smoke, the cruel laugh still plastered in my mind. I heard a groan.

"Everleigh, wha- what happened." It was Mabel, she crawled out from behind a bush.

"What were you doing behind that?" I asked. She shook her head,

"I don't know. I don't remember anything after Adaline started smoking." I flinched, I forgot about Adaline! I ran over to where she fell and noticed her missing.

"Did you see where she went?" I asked Mabel.

"No, but I did see a black bird, it was huge!"

"There are no black birds in Somewhere," I thought aloud, "It must be him!"

"Who?" Mabel asked, looking confused. I need to fill her in about him.

"I'll explain it all on the way."

"The way where?"

"The way back to Nowhere."
