Ronnie felt like she hadn't slept in days, her sleep schedule had been messed up since Alison's funeral, but after what Jenna told her the other day it had become almost nonexistent and tracking through the woods to the shed the girls used to hang out in was not helping. "Whose idea was this again?" Hanna asked.

"Emily's mom," Spencer answered Hanna's question.

"The shed was me, my mom just said we should do something for us," Emily clarified.

"Well, couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna asked, as the group came to a small hill and started to climb it.

"They're not mosquitoes, They're gnats," Aria told her.

"Whatever, They're small and annoying, and they're flying up my nose," Hanna complained.

"Well, they're attracted to your perfume, and your hair product, and your lip gloss," Spencer listed off.

"So, what are you saying, I attract flies?" Hanna asked her.

"Gnats," Ronnie said back to her, "They're bugging me too, but you don't hear me complaining," Ronnie didn't mean it to be but she kind of snapped at Hanna.

"Jez Ronnie, I'll stop, no need to freak," Hanna said, a little defensively.

"Han, I'm sorry, I just haven't been sleeping well lately," Ronnie apologized.

"Ronnie, is everything okay?" Emily asked her.

"Yeah, yeah, just with everything with Alison, among other things" Ronnie explained, muttering the last part quietly. "Hey, are you guys sure we're going the right way?" she asked, changing the subject and looking around them at the trees, the other looking around them too.

"No, this is it, I remember that tree," Spencer said, pointing up at a large tree in front of them. "It's the halfway point there's 136 steps left to the shed," the other girls looked over at Spencer wondering how she remembered that.

"How do you remember that?" Ronnie asked.

"Have you been out here since Alison?" Emily asked.

"Me? No. No way," Spencer said, defensively.

"But you remember that tree," Aria pointed out.

"You guys, it's not that weird. I mean, we came out here in eighth grade like every day, even after," Hanna said defending Spencer.
