Although Chief Jiang no longer had her hair gripped by the iron bandit, she still sensed tension within his hand that held the sword. He was still scared, and if she made any sudden move, he could still easily kill her.

She had to wait longer still for an opportune time.

"You're wrong, Jin Jiuling," the bandit said. "Only you will all die. Don't forget, I am from Dulong Island. All I have to do is put on the iron boots and walk out of here slowly. By the time I'm enjoying luxuries in the Hanhai palace, you all will be feeding the fish with your bodies!"

The bandit lifted the small bomb, preparing to throw it before Lu Xiaofeng interrupted him. "Physician Song, er... iron-boot bandit," he said. "Look behind you."

Perhaps out of curiosity, or out of fright, the bandit turned, finally seeing Hua Manlou who had slipped past the gate in time, stepping from behind a large statue of the buddha. "Don't come over here!" he shouted. "If you do, I'll kill her!"

Hua Manlou paused, hesitating as he threatened him with the life of the person he cared so much about. "I just have a question," he said quietly.

"What do you want to ask?"

"You're a good doctor," he said. "Why would you want to harm people?"

"You would never understand," the bandit answered, glancing almost hungrily at the chief, who even now remained defiant. "Toying with people's lives; it's a thrill that is unmatched. You've been blind for so many years. How does it feel?"

Hua Manlou stiffened. In front of him was the man who had stolen his sight forever, and for years, he had felt less like a man due to his blindness. He could never see the people he loved the most. All because of this bandit. "How did it feel all these years? After you blinded me?"

"It felt pretty good."

At his answer, Hua Manlou drew out his sword, pointing the tip directly toward the man's eyes. Although the bandit flinched, he did not try to escape. "Go on, kill me!" he shouted. "Kill me, and you'll kill the both of us! Then you'll truly feel how good it feels!"

However, Hua Manlou did not move even a muscle. Jiang Qing's heart nearly broke, knowing full well that her being the bandit's hostage held some influence over his thoughts. "You've never killed someone before, have you?" the bandit continued to taunt him. "It's a most miraculous taste, and you will be served it two-fold today! Once you kill, you'll never stop! It'll be easy! You'll also heal your eyes, and you'll be able to see your beloved Chief Jiang in the moment before she dies!"

"Kill him!" Jin Jiuling shouted.

"Lou'er, don't do such a thing!" Hua Ruling cried.
