Nate
--------------------------------------------We were late.
I was never late. I don't think I've ever been late for a meeting since I became Beta. I always assumed that if I had a mate she would be punctual and an earlier riser like me and my mother.
My mother was always awake by 5 am with a huge smile on her face. She was always out and gardening before anyone else was awake. I guess I'm now like her, but I never get any sleep in the first place.
As soon as I left Ricky last night I went into business mode. I mind linked Craig and told him that I wanted to have a meeting with him and my mate so we could discuss the lanyard situation. As soon as I was about to walk into the unoccupied room next to mine, Craig mind linked me.
Meet me at my office.
Immediately, I turned around and marched to his office. Craig wasn't a serious guy, but if and when he did get serious it was because he was in his Alpha mode and something important had to be discussed. I walked in and there in front of me was Craig intensely looking at his laptop. When I closed the door behind me, he looked up and motioned for me to see what was on his laptop.
He's not talking. This must be serious.
I walked around his big wooden desk and leaned forward to look at the laptop. It was the security footage of our prison in the basement.
The prison was almost always empty and surprisingly clean. We usually put fighting pack members, infiltrating rogues or new unstable wolves in these cells. We release those wolves in less than a week, depending on what they did to get thrown in the prison, and we treat the prisoners humanely. The cells had been empty for a month until today. Sitting in a cell with a huge smile on his face was the man who put the lanyard on my mate.
My heart was beating rapidly and my blood was boiling; however, I gripped the desk and kept my feelings in check.
"You captured him." I simply stated trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.
"He's not much of a runner. Stubby legs."
I stood like a statue and observed the man.
He really does have stubby legs. Pathetic.
Craig leaned back on his chair and sighed deeply.
"So from my understanding. This dude took all the USBs with the information we need, put them on a lanyard, and then put them around your mate. He also enchanted the lanyard so if you take it off of her she dies."
It sounds crazy when he says it like that.
I silently nodded and continued to stare at the footage. Craig let an exasperated groan.
"Well shit. This sucks."
"Mhmm."
I then noticed that the prisoner's mouth was moving up and down.
"Is he talking?"
Craig leaned forwards towards the laptop once again.
"Nah. He's singing in some foreign unrecognized language. Freaking the guards out, though. "
I took a deep breath to calm myself down but the more I looked at the creep the angrier I got.
"Craig, I'm going to be frank with you. I wanna kill this man. I want to shred him to pieces because of what he did to my mate; however, he has information. It would be unwise to kill him now, so once we squeeze what we need from him. I'm going to slowly and painfully kill him... If you'll allow me to."
