Chapter 6: The hunt for the ghost

In the cover of darkness, three men bravely went out of the safety of the walls. It is now behind them as they face the stone cold world. At least it was better now than before. They went for a stroll with swords hidden underneath their haori. Tanjiro wears his black and green checkered haori that Nezuko repaired for him. Zenitsu sports a bright yellow haori that fades into orange towards the bottom with black triangle pattern yukata. Inosuke as the brute, wears an animal skin fur to cover his half naked body.

The trio blends into society as they walk past several villagers out at night. It was nice seeing that everybody can go out peacefully without worrying of any attack from a vile creature. Demons.

"Where should we look first?" Zenitsu asked the redhead

"I supposed I've already checked around the village. No sign of demons. The only place I didn't check are the mountains." Tanjiro responded

"Then we're going into my territory. Follow me minions!" Inosuke shouted

"We're not your minions!" Zenitsu retorted

Tanjiro ignoring their argument sets off towards the mountains not far from the village. It was the only place that he didn't checked when he was out the night before. And it was a wise decision considering it was quite dangerous already without demons threatening their lives. Now with his two buddies, the trio is complete and now executing a scout mission as one.

"Hmm, I don't hear anything suspicious." Zenitsu noted

"The scent is pretty normal. Nothing abnormal about these trees." Tanjiro added

"The animals, they're in distress. Something is here." Inosuke suddenly deduced

"Are you sure it wasn't just your imagination dumbass?" Zenitsu mocked

"Something is scaring them. We need to find out what." Inosuke moves ahead

"Has he lost his mind?" Zenitsu complains

"He trusts his instinct. Maybe we should too." Tanjiro fasten his pace

"Hey, wait up."

As all three of them moves stealthily through the woods, they encountered something unexpected. They found a hut that looks to be abandoned, but something is telling them that someone is living here.

"If I ever seen a hut before, this one is out of the ordinary." Inosuke commented

"I smell blood, but I don't smell any smoke or remnants of a fire being used." Tanjiro adds

"There's no one inside. Should we go and check?" Zenitsu looked at the two

"After you shithead." Inosuke simply blurted

"Why you?!" Zenitsu was about to put down a fight

"Guys, snap out if it. I'll go first. You stay here and watch my back." Tanjiro takes the lead

Within an instant, Tanjiro took the charge and went closer towards the old building. Vegetation has spread and grown attached to the house and long untrimmed grass along the edges suggests that nobody been here for a while. He got up to the porch and gently slide the rickety door open. Upon entering the darken hut, he lights up a match and lights the gas lamp that was conveniently placed in the center.

"This seems, odd." He said to himself

He looks around and found that the place has not a single speck of dust on any of its furniture surfaces. He smells the blood but it was only dried up animal blood that was by the kitchen. He inspects it and found the stove had no ashes in them suggesting this person ate the meat, raw. At this point, he was definitely sure that he had hit the marker.
