The hall was silently waiting for the sorting hat's decision, even though everyone could guess in what house the girl would end up in.

So when the hat shouted out slytherin no one was surprised.

Looking at the girl when she walked in every single person in the great hall knew that there was something different about her, her appearance was different but that wasn't what made shivers run down the spines of most of the people while they clapped as she made her way to the slytherin table.

The moment that the hat was taken off of her head, for a few seconds, it was very hard to breathe.

Most people just thought it was because of that eyes of hers, who seemed to look at every single person in the hall in the mere seconds she eyed the crowd.

But of course Tom Riddle and his knights knew better.

And as she sat down and gave a little smile to the people around her, making a lot of them think that maybe the girl wasn't as terrifying as she seemed to be, some even returning the smile, Tom knew that he should be careful.

One wrong step and it could mean destroying everything he had worked for and the image that he had built over the years...

...and he wouldn't let that happen.

Athena spaced out during the headmaster's speech, amused by the fact of how clueless the people in the great hall were, and as she ate she could feel everyone's eyes on her, especially his.

She noticed that the girl in front of her was trying to get her attention so she looked up, the girl had black hair and green eyes and from her poster and elegance you could see that she was a pureblood, athena had to admit that she posed a rather intimidating image but she wasn't really worried she had a feeling that this girl wasn't as tough as she seemed to be.

"Hi, I'm Isabella Greengrass, pleasure and welcome to slytherin" she said with a smile that Athena knew was 100% genuine, as much as she knew that by the end of the year she would be gone without a trace but making a few friends wouldn't hurt anybody in the end she was still a human after all.

"Pleasure is all mine," she said matching the other girl's smile "I would introduce myself, but I feel like you know my name" she said with a little laugh.

The girl beside Isabella gave a nervous laugh, she had brown hair and dark brown eyes, she seemed to be very energetic but in a way she could still hold on to elegance

"Yeah, Athena right, are you excited for this year? I'm Sophie Yaxley by the way, and beside you is Amelia Macmilon" she pointed to the girl next to me who had apparently already finished eating and was reading a book about defense against the dark arts, she had blond hair and hazel eyes, she was rather intimidating in a way like she would beat you up at any given moment, and by the way that she just gave a little nod to Athena with that flawless poster and cold face she really seemed like she could, but she did have that kind of understanding eyes and with that she decided that she liked them.

"Pleasure to meet you three, I actually am especially to see what the classes are going to be like" they carried on with the conversation, telling her who were the good teachers and who's classes were boring, they all had the same classes runes, care of magical creatures and arithmancy.

Athena took the light conversation to observe the way other people were reacting to them talking to her. They seemed to be well liked inside the house which wasn't surprising given that they were part of the sacred 28, that's like a pass for popularity not only in Slytherin but in Hogwarts in general.

She knew that she would grow fond of them, even after everything she had done, everything that she had seen in life, she was still human, and that fact still hunted her but there where things to be done, and even though she knew it would hurt to let them go she continued to talk to them and at night she cried because of all of the lives she had ever left behind.

But that was her life and in the morning she knew she would wake up, put on a smile, enchant everyone around her and then take it out on someone, maybe not in the most sane and correct of ways to most people but she couldn't care less.

She was conscious about the power that she had and she loved the way people submitted to it, maybe it was the most twisted side that she had created over the years and it almost made her forget her problems, no matter who they were they couldn't stop it...

...it was exciting.

o-O

In the morning she woke up early as always and decided to go to the library. The previous night Sophie (she was head girl) had shown her to her dorms and talked a little bit about the school. She also showed the dorm that the four girls would be sharing which made Athena pretty happy with her first day.

She arrived at the library and immediately felt his magic and smiled. She looked around and saw that no one else was in the library at that time, this should be fun.

Tom was reading peacefully at the library when he saw her come in.

He had observed her during dinner and didn't know if it was luck or if she already knew somehow, but she ended up making friends with the three most influential and powerful girls in the house. It didn't matter how you looked at it, the girls were perfect pureblood children.

But she was different from the way that he had imagined her to be on the day he met her. She was dangerous, powerful beyond belief, and she was still that until the moment she sat at the slytherin table. The moment that she sat there and Isabella Greengrass started talking to her she became more human.

And that made him think that maybe he had seen the situation in the wrong light, but he quickly dismissed that idea, the day that he had seen her in diagon alley was pretty much still real and the way that she had that sadistic smile on her face was also pretty much real.

The control that she had over her magic was unreal, after she sat on the table he couldn't feel anything, it was like her magic had been completely taken off her body, he didn't know anyone who could do that. Of course you can hide your magic a little but it is always going to be there one way or another, but apparently this girl liked to defid the rules.

Suddenly a voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

"Hi, I'm sorry, could you help me a little bit so I can find the DADA books? As you probably know I'm new here, I wasn't expecting the library to be so big" Athena said with a little laught, and Tom couldn't stop staring at her with disbelief, she is acting as if nothing happened.

She continued to smile and with that Tom knew that she knew exactly what she was doing, and for a few seconds didn't know how to react but he decided to play along as well, if she wanted to play then she would have the game of her life.

"Of course" he said, matching her smile, but there was something different about it, Athena thought, it was like his eyes would kill her if they could but he was still smiling "Do you have a specific book in mind?" It was like Tom was hearing a voice in his head saying let your magic go, show her, put her in her place, but he had grown quite good at ignoring that voice so he did just that as he walked with her to the defense section.

"No to be honest I just wanted a good book on curses, anything you would recommend?" The tension grew bigger as they walked, she could feel his compressed feelings in his magic, it was funny to see the contrast between the way he was behaving and the way his magic did.

He gave her a book with a sharp smile "I think you will like that one alot"

She thanked him and thought,

why not?

She freed a part of her magic looking at him in the eyes as it went all through the room "This year is going to be very fun, wouldn't you agree, Tom?"

And again he went with it and also let his magic flow, and if anyone would walk in that room where the both of them eyed each other intensely, eyes of the color of death and brown eyes with a red shine, they would find it hard not to fall into their knees with the immense power they had, one that would force you to submit and the other who would convince you to. And in that moment all masks were off and it was only the both of them with their thirst for power.

"Couldn't agree more" he said with his eyes glowing more and more with each word.

She smiled and walked off and left them both with their souls filled with a sadistic glee to destroy one another.
