•Merfolk have the genitals of humans, but due to their fish-like nature, they are fluidflux (a combination of genderfluid and genderflux) at birth, their gender fluctuates from different areas on the spectrum but they aren't fixed to one gender in their fluctuations. Their gender fluctuates from agender to demiboy/demigirl to full-on male or female to every other gender identity in existence, sometimes one of these identities at a time, sometimes a combo of many of these identities, and sometimes all of the gender identities plus unique genders that cannot be labeled/have not been labeled yet mashed into one. This leads to the false belief that there is a shortage of mermen or mermaids in the ocean (depending on whom you ask), or that mermen are ugly and undesirable while mermaids are evil seductresses. Also, their lower half comes in the form of all sea creatures but is entirely their own, and despite having human-like genitalia, all merpeople can become pregnant or impregnate others, no matter their biological sex or gender identity, this contributes to the false belief of there being a shortage of mermaids or mermen, as people have mistaken pregnant mermen for pregnant mermaids.

•Some fish can switch their biological sex or can reproduce both ways, or even asexually, hence why the merfolk are fluidflux by default in terms of gender identity: because of how flexible fish and other sea creatures are in terms of gender. The anatomy of the merpeople is a bit different: even if a merperson has the tail of a dolphin or whale or other sea mammal and not that of a fish, male and female merpeople, despite having human-looking reproductive organs, can both become pregnant and impregnate others. The genitalia of a male merperson is hidden through a slit in their tail, and they have a birth canal in a slit under the slit that hides their penis. They can become pregnant orally through swallowing the seed of a male or female merperson, which then goes down a tube that leads to their uterus, separated from their esophagus and the other tubes in their throat by a complex system of flaps and filters, and they can get prevent anally through a flap that separates their anal canal and rectum from a separate tube that leads to the uterus.

•The genitalia of female merpeople is a vagina hidden by a similar slit in their tail, and they can become pregnant in the same ways as the male merfolk can, orally by swallowing the seed and having the seed sent to their uterus through the complex tube system, anally through the tube that leads to the uterus, and vaginally in the same way humans can, and their seed can not only impregnate the male merpeople when swallowed, but it can impregnate other females of any species during lesbian sex if it ends up inside the female in question vaginally. Male merpeople can be impregnated anally by other males of any species, and this can happen to male and female merpeople even in human form.

•Culturally, the merfolk believe there are 3 biological sexes rather than two, and those three sexes are male, female, and intersex. Because of the gender flexibility of fish and because of their reproductive systems and their cultural belief that there are 3 sexes, the merpeople tend to be more open about LGBT relationships than most species are, but it's still frowned upon in some areas because some merpeople feel that the only way to survive is to mate with the opposite sex.

•Merfolk and elves and dragons are distant cousins, however, merfolk grow beards much sooner, but tend to choose not to, and lack the pointed ears of elves, making many believe they are mistakenly half-human when in truth, their upper half resembles that of a human but is, in fact, entirely their own, much like their lower half. They like pretty treasures, but in a more endearing way than that of dragons, and seem to be more related to the benevolent dragons of times of old than the malicious ones.

•However, they are distantly related to humans, as they share a common genetic ancestor with them, as do all humanoid supernaturals. They and the other supernaturals are all separate, unique species, but they are distant cousins to humans.

•Both the creatures of the land and sea are kept as livestock and pets, though some can speak our language and talk to us, dolphins and sharks are known for being able to speak to merpeople while horses, pegasi, unicorns, and alicorns are known for being able to talk to humans in various languages, but the languages they speak always heavily depend on the country/oceanic region they reside in. This explains why some animals can speak our languages and have humanoid forms and some cannot speak our languages at all nor do they have a human form, for instance: Applejack vs. Winona, the merpeople are much more in tune with flora and fauna than humans are and can tell, just by looking at a sea creature, whether they can speak their language and have the form of a merperson or not, but humans don't have to worry about eating a creature that has a human form and/or can speak human by accident anyways, as a creature that could speak in the human tongue would reveal themselves long before this would happen, and they tend to stay hidden from us because the creatures of the land and sea that speak our tongues and have humanoid forms are magic, so they can't show themselves anyways, and just as the merpeople follow the ocean, they follow its magic as well. Animals that can only understand what merpeople/humans/humanoids are saying but CAN NOT speak their language(s) do not have the form of one, animals that can understand what merpeople/humans/humanoids are saying but can also speak their language(s) do.

•Despite this, most merpeople eat plankton and only eat other sea creatures in extreme cases.

•Merfolk do have souls, but not in the same way humans do, it is unknown how long mermaids live, they say the merfolk live for 3000 years at a minimum while the maximum could be forever unless a merperson gets into an accident, dies in battle, commits suicide, becomes broken-hearted, or gets sick, making them immortal like the elves except for not being immune to sickness, meaning merfolk can die from the same diseases and viruses humans can. To balance out their long lifespan, the merfolk turn to seafoam when they die and have no afterlife to look forward to, no heaven, no hell, nothing. They just wander the sea as lost spirits. This has led to the myth that merfolk don't have souls.

•The merfolk draw their powers from the ocean, and the ocean is our life support system, so that makes them some of the most powerful beings on earth. However, in exchange for such powers, they gained limits to their powers and more near-fatal weaknesses than they can count.

•Darling, it's NOT better down where it's wetter. Disney lied to you, as did the other movies and books and works of fiction. Under the sea, it's all about survival, it's kill or be killed. Have you seen how dangerous it is down there? How many sharks and parasites and giant krakens there are down there? King Triton was honestly kind of a hypocrite for thinking the human world, and humans as a whole, are dangerous, the merpeople are far more dangerous than humans.

•Though they do have kingdoms and cities. They're just heavily fortified and provide air for any dolphins or undersea mammals that live with them so they can stay safe from undersea gargantuan predators.

•Surprisingly, the merpeople can go into heat and have a mating season based on the cycle of the moon. The moon and other things that influence the tides and the tides themselves can affect a merperson's powers.
