Cederic was annoyed at the situation that had persisted with his friends for the entirety that he had known them. Sometimes when two parties are in love, no progress will be made between the two. Both parties might be too shy, or too fearful to make progress with the other. It was stalemate with no attacker, a war without any fights. It was a foolish belief of peace. His friends carried this to heart, be it willingly or unconsciously.
Kit was his best friend, he could act somewhat childish at times, but he was the only one who would continue to hang out with someone with such an annoying temperament. Most people wanted Cederic to shut up and leave them alone. Kit only wanted him to shut up.
Kit was easily distracted and often chased after things that caught his attention. If he saw a butterfly he might chase after it neglecting everything else around him. That, his taste for milk and few other odd habits lead to his nickname of Cat.
Kit has had a crush on Piper for the last 4 years. Cederic sighed at his friend’s shyness. She was only a few months older than he was. Her long golden brown hair and curious gaze always seemed to attract his attention. She was the Pied Piper of his heart, she could just have easily dragged him into a river if she so as voiced her whim. Although she would never be able to form the words. Piper had been attracted to Kit with much the same degree he was attracted towards her. If it were not for the fact that they knew each other so well that they became afraid of voicing these feelings in return for losing a lifelong friend, they might have made progress.
The couple of Kit and Piper that had yet to form was Cederic’s form of amusement. It was how he passed the time, thinking of ways to get them closer together. No one who knew Cederic would have thought it possible of him. The would have thought him more akin to pulling couples apart, then sticking them together.
His face was rugged, and the faint lines of insomnia spread out from his eyes. Cederic did not have the actual condition of insomnia. What had plagued him was of his own making. He had discovered at a young age that it was better for him to limit his intelligence through such methods. It was due to the fear of Kit and Piper abandoning him that he persisted in keeping himself awake for days at a time.
The evening bell was the signal for school to end. The group was still in high school, but the amount of Saturday schools they needed to make up was no joke. Skipping school too often always became such a pain to fix. Cederic packed up his stuff and walked leisurely to the school entrance. The three of them lived close by, so they had all gotten into the habit of walking home together. Due to Cederic’s laziness he was always the last one to arrive at the entrance.
Today was no different. Both Piper and Kit waited for him, an arms distance apart from each other. Cederic clicked his tongue in annoyance. Kit and Piper’s faces where tilted slightly away from each other, somewhat downcast. It had been like this for the last few months, both of them afraid to face the other. Unlike other emotions, true love grows over time. The two of them who had kept their feelings locked away had a growing problem of aversion. As both had started this aversion on their own, neither had noticed the others.
The only one who noticed was Cederic; he was almost at his breaking point of annoyance. If they did not do something soon, he would have to resort to drastic measures.
Kit was slightly above average height and appearance. His dark brown hair stretched past his ears, and nearly covered his sea colored eyes if he did not constantly push it back. Although appearance can be considered to the individual’s taste. A specific person seeing a specific face, can mistake beauty. A facial appearance shown to two different people will attain two different reactions.
Kit had an earring in his left ear. It was pierced at the helix, the upper cartilage of the ear. The few people that did get piercings almost always pierced the lobe for their first time. Kit was an exception to that rule. Because of the group he hung out with, he had to get the oddly placed piercing. It was not too noticeable unless one pointed it out, his scruffy hair covering it up most of the time anyway.
