Chapter 2
It was the end of period 3. I walked out of the classroom and took a look at my schedule.
i have a free next. wby? I texted Chels.
Today was the first day of school so we were running on a special schedule. Everyone only had the first four classes because there was a mandatory Board meeting/ evaluation to see how the freshmen and new teachers did. Relieved to be done with school, I walked down the hall to my locker.
had to check in to photography. meet you at the gym in 5? could you please grab my duffle bag? thanks Als, you're the best.
I got both bags and went to the bathroom to change into my cheer uniform. It's not everyday you see a cheerleader holding pompoms in one hand and a bat in the other. I was walking through the courtyard to get to the gym when someone yanked me down from the back. I fell on my butt and turned red of anger mixed with embarrassment. I turned around and saw Spencer shocked but laughing on the ground.
Now filled with only embarrassment, I pinched his nose hard. That surely got him to stop laughing. I couldn't help to giggle when his smile disappeared and his eyebrows sank downward. Even when he was in pain he still managed to look cute.
"You're lucky I like you. If i didn't, I would have swung this stupid bat of yours and you'd probably have a concussion right now."
His smile reappeared. "Oh so you like me?"
I swallowed hard. "Oh shut up. Don't flatter yourself."
I looked deep into his gorgeous eyes as I helped him up. I picked up my pompoms and his bat and continued walking in the direction of the gym. I could see Chels waiting for me. If only Spencer didn't attack me, I probably would have been there on time. I didn't hear any footsteps behind me so I turned around. Spencer was just standing there, the same place he fell laughing. It was like he was in a trance or something.
"You coming to tryouts or are you just gonna stand there until I'm done?" I joked around. He smiled and walked toward me.
"Finally! My legs are getting tired of waiting." called out Chelsea.
I walked to the front door and unlocked it. The gym was quiet and empty. I remember the last basketball game of the season; a few months ago, right before summer started. There was six seconds on the clock and Joey had the ball mid court. There were atleast three guys in his way. He passed the ball to Kayden and weaved his way to the three- point line. With two seconds left he scored with a jump shot and the game ended 42-37. The bleachers were packed with family and friends and they were all screaming with joy. The boys leave that victory in a trophy case in the main hall.
We rolled out the mats and set up the tables. There were four of us judging tryouts today: Chelsea, Eden, Amber, and myself. Spencer said the guys wanted to come down and sit through tryouts to check out some girls. They wouldn't be coming until later since they had some kind of baseball meeting. If you hadn't taken notice, this was our friend circle. At first, it was unfair being the only girls, Chels and I, but after Nate broke up with his ex, we realized it was better this way. Back in freshmen year, he used to date Taylor. Chels and I hardly knew her at first and then she started coming around with Nate. In the beginning, she was polite and shy but then we noticed this girl started hitting on Asher and Ian! She just had to go. We were fine being the only girls since.
The bell rang and school was over. Not long after, Amber and Eden strolled in.
"Hey guys!" they called out as they looked at Chelsea and I.
"Oh hi spenc! How was break? Oh it was great, thanks for asking." Spencer sarcastically babbled. They just blocked it out while Chels and I couldn't help but burst out laughing.
