Chapter 1

The scent of banana pancakes lingers through my nostrils... at two... in the morning. I jumped out of bed and hurried downstairs to the kitchen; only to find the lights off and my puppy, Lacy, thinking it was time for her breakfast. The way her tongue licked her lips made me realize the irresistable smell was apart of that lovely dream I had just ruined.

I was at Spencers house and he called me his girlfriend for the first time!

Pshh, I WISH! I had a crush on that kid since he nearly gave me a concusion on the baseball field in the ninth grade! Anyways, back to reality. I had bags under my eyes from creating the perfect half- time routine all of yesterday and last night. Being captain of the squad was more work than I thought but then again, I've been able to handle it since sophomore year.

I propped myself up on a barstool and sat at the counter for a good 20 minutes before I felt the urge to get up and go back to sleep. All I could think about was how Spencers eyes were like a daimond- blue and how his shoulder blades move when he swings his bat, and how his short, dark, hazelnut hair blew in the wind when he ran from base to base. After he almost killed me, we became so much closer. I want to think that we might have a thing together but I don't want to ruin such a good friendship.

I slumped over and dragged myself back to bed. I was pretty sure Lacy went back to her bed near the couch since I didn't pay much attention to her. Four hours later, my alarm went off and through the brightness of my cellphone screen, I read SCHOOL!!. It was Monday and not only did I think all eight classes go by at a sedate pace, but there are cheerleading try-outs till 5; so as team captain, it is my pleasure to stay until the last contesant walks out those gym doors.

I was brushing my teeth when I recieved a text from Chelsea:

hey Ally, picking me up soon?

I totally forgot about my best friend!? Chels has been my partner- in- crime since freshmen year. She's also co- captain of the squad and goalie on our soccer team. Lately, her mom has been called in for meetings which supposingly begins promptly at 5:15 am, so since she doesn't have the car, I volunteered to chauffeur her around. I replied with an "almost there." but I still had to purchase my iced coffee at 7 eleven. I threw on a decent outfit, flew my uniform in a duffle bag along with an orange and with a shoutful goodbye to my mom, I was on my way.

I reached Chelsea's house around seven and school would start in 40 minutes. There was enough time to stop at Starbucks and get more coffee since I drank it all on the drive here. Chels got into the car and I got a text from Spencer. We weren't really best friends but I guess you could say we had some other type of bond in our friendship.

"Hey Als... could you do me a favor please?"

"yeah, sure, what's up?" I replied.

"I grabbed my bat& forgot my duffle bag by the front door... could you bring it to school& meet me at the field before class?"

Like seriously, how could I say no to him? So of course I said no problem. Starbucks could definitely wait. I told Chels the new plans and all I got back was a little grin and she looked out her window giggling.

Spenc lived three blocks away from Chelsea and five from me. We reached his house in no time and low and behold, his bag sat on the porch just like he had said. I sat there looking at Chels wondering if she was going to go get it.

"Well I figured you wanted to touch your boyfriends belongings instead of having me get it for you."

".... good point" I smirked and opened the car door.
