Chapter 4
It's Friday and also our monthly "Ditch Day." We came up with it sometime during sophomore year when the second Friday of September was hell for all of us. Since then, we dedicated this cursed day for some fun in the sun. I called Asher to see what he was up to. My mom left early to the airport and took the car. She was on her way for a business trip in Atlanta so I needed a ride to pick the car up. I love her dearly but I was not about to wake up that early to drop her off. Spencer usually slept in till 9:30 and Chels still didn't have a car.
"Hey Als, what's up?"
"I actually need a favor. Could you pick me up?"
"Yeah no probs. Be there in 10."
Of course I stick with Chelsea being my number one friend, but besides her, Asher was one of the very few that knew how I really felt about Spenc. Although it may not seem like it, Ash and I are super close. He's like my little P.I. and even though he messes around 90% of the time, he's very dependable. Time flew by as I fed Lacy and cleaned up the house. I heard him pull into my driveway. I grabbed the spare key and clipped it to my lanyard. My wallet and jacket were hanging by the door so I snatched those on the way out along with a couple of muffins for the ride. I got in and gave him a muffin in exchange for a cup of coffee.
"So where to, boss?" he joked.
"Airport please." I politely answered.
"You're not leaving on our Ditch Day, are you?!"
"Nooo. Never. I just need to pick up the car, you donkey." I laughed. "So what's our plans? Are we all meeting up somewhere or what?"
"I was gonna ask you the same thing. We could go bowling... You could pretend to not know how and Spenc can guide your every move." he mentioned as he gave me a wink.
"No way dude!" We both started to laugh as we pulled into the airport parking lot.
"F14. Over there."
He pulled up and I jumped out.
"Meet you at Spenc' and we can plan our day there. Seth's picking up Chels, so do you mind picking up Ian and Nate? I'm gonna stop by Brandon's place."
"Yeah, no problem. See ya." I waved and he was off.
"So, agenda is to put gas, pick up the boys, and meet at Spencers." I thought to myself. I turned on the radio and my favorite song, I Don't Dance, came on. I love the way country music is always on point. It's just so relevant to my everyday life. It didn't take me long to make my rounds and we were at Spencer's house in no time with a full tank and a bunch of snacks. We weren't sure what our plans were but for sure we'd be hungry.
Seth nor Asher's cars were here and the door was still locked. Just so happens, I had a spare he gave me a couple summers back when I sort of "lived" with him and his parents. He hated that I always bothered him for his key so he made me a sunflower one. It was my favorite key, for it had my favorite flower on it and it unlocked the door of my best friend/ crush's house. The boys began to unload the car.
I opened the door and Bubbles jumped up, excited to see a familiar face. There weren't any dishes in the sink so I took it as Spencer was still sleeping. "Poor thing! You're probably hungry, huh, baby?" I exclaimed as I looked down at the little puppy. In my opinion, Bubbles loved me more than Spenc because I obviously gave her more love and affection. Mr. and Mrs. Hessing were currently traveling the world, as Spencer suggested. They were hesitant at first of leaving him home alone but he assured them that if anything should happen, I would be of assistance. Unlike him, I was responsible, trustworthy, and I also knew self-defense. So I was basically his on-call babysitter, if you wish.
