The eyes... they say they're the windows to the soul. Well, for Teddy, they were the most frustrating part of a drawing. Everything could be perfect and the one little mistake on the eyes and you'd have your drawing looking all weird.Mrs Jones had told him he just needed to practice a little more. All he'd heard was that his work was not as good as he'd hoped.
The sound of the pencil grating against the surface of the paper at the back of his notebook was music to his ears. He was so focused on nailing the pair of eyes he was working on. No full face or anything, just eyes. He just had to make them look alive. No biggy.
Mr Hale was almost always late to class anyway, he had some time still.
"Is this seat taken?"
Obviously not! He thought, closing his eyes for a few seconds before letting out a little huff because he was maybe just a bit aggravated at the distraction.
Then he looked up and was definitely not prepared to see her standing right there, large glasses perched on her nose, making her doe eyes appear even larger from this angle.
Flustered, he did a double take and then accidentally dropped his pencil.
"Uh... yeah" he reached for his pencil and only realized what he'd said when he saw her eyes sweep around the classroom in search for another seat "oh, wait- the seat is totally free" he mentally face palmed, he'd sounded too eager
The small smile she gave him made up for the embarrassment he felt just a second ago though.
"Thanks"
She took a seat and placed her things on the desk. This was the closest they'd ever been since he'd started paying more attention to her. He was close enough to spot the small dark spot on her chin, just below her lower lip (probably a birthmark). And he could smell her perfume!
He had no idea how exactly to describe it but it had to be one of those tropical flowers or something. It made him think about a beautiful beach day for some reason.
She pulled out her phone and looked like she was texting someone before she finally placed it face down on her desk and did a slight head shake.
He quickly looked away.
Act busy!
The next second, his notebook was on the floor between them. He quickly picked it up.
"That looked neat" she told him, the small smile playing on her lips again. She'd seen his rough drawings.
"You too" he paused, horrified "-I mean thank you"
What on earth was that?!
