He wanted to talk to her, he really did.
But at the same time, he liked the illusion of perfection that she had now that he hadn't gotten close enough to her.
That's how it always works, isn't it?
Some things just look better from a distance, some people too apparently. You get too close and what you see just might change your mind.
So you can understand why he wasn't so keen on getting too close to her, maybe he was also a bit nervous but that's totally asides the point. Besides, he was fine with just observing from where he was as she walked into the classroom. Mr Hale was late as usual, people were in their little groups chatting away and he momentarily forgot about the little practice sketch that he was working on at the back of his book. She had on the cutest denim overalls and she seemed to be walking towards him.
Wait, what??
He quickly averted his gaze.
"Hey" he could hear the smile in her voice, the sweet scent that was her perfume drifting to his nostrils. She took the seat right next to him, the same one she'd taken the last time they were in this class. How could he forget?
"Uh- hey— hi" he tried to put up a smile but it probably looked more like a grimace, and since when did he stutter? It seemed like he couldn't put together a proper sentence whenever she was around.
"I'm Eden"
"Wha— Like...the garden?" What???
"Yeah..."
Silence
"What's your name?"
Right, when a person tells you their name you tell them yours too!
"Ted— I mean Theo, I'm Theo" He didn't have a problem with being called Teddy which was what Scarlet had always called him since grade school but he still always introduced himself as Theo.
Eden though... such a fitting name.
It was nice to be able to finally know her name, at some point he'd tried to guess what it was but none of his guesses felt right.
They never even came close.
"Theo" she smiled softly and met his eyes. "Cute"
"Thanks, my mom gave it to me"
What happened to his brain-to-mouth filter for goodness sake?!
