Tony Stark's Retirement Plan

(I know in my previous post I talked about ironlad being an AI but in this one I would have Harley keener become ironlad)

Harley keener/Peter Parker (Romantic - not required but I like this ship)
Tony stark & Peter Parker (PLATONIC - i know I rarely make rules like this but I severely dislike starker as a romantic ship, I just find it creepy so please keep it platonic)

Plot:
The fanfic would start off something like this (feel free to copy this directly if you wish):

"Now though, we are are going live to Stark Tower as Tony Stark, Avenger and former CEO of Stark Industries, addresses his plans to retire in the coming years."

Harley Keener, the boy who had once aided Tony stark during the extremis attacks, snaps his head up from one of his various inventions at the mention of his former acquaintance. He was now a young man at 18, still living with his mother and sister in Rose Hill Tenesee, who had developed a knack for engineering through Tony Stark's sponsorship. Harley approached his homemade television set and turned up the volume, sitting and listening tentatively to what the man has to say.

"Hi folks," He begins, starting off the press conference casually in typical Tony Stark fashion. Tony is standing confidently in front of a lectern with his weight shifted onto one leg with the other splayed out slightly to the side. Standing slightly behind him to the left is a younger guy with brown curly hair and doe eyes. Harley knows it's unlikely but the boy looks the spitting image of a younger Tony Stark.

"As I'm sure you are aware, today I will be telling you about my plans to retire. Now, I can a already hear you saying, 'Tony! You're still a young-ish man of fourty-something, you don't need to think about retiring for a while yet!'," this earned a few snickers from the audience."Well, im not going to retire just yet; I still have some unfinished business- but I will get to that later." Tony said waving his hand slightly. "And so," he continued, "I would like to officially announce that I will be retiring in exactly three years from today." Reporters begin to swell lurching over each other to shout questions and flash their cameras at the mention of his retirement date.

"Please, please, guys, there will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end" a gruff looking man who appeared to be a member of Stark's security detail interjected.

"Thank you Happy," Tony said before returning to his speech. "Now back to the matter at hand, My lovely wife Pepper and I-" he gestures to a woman with strawberry blonde hair standing off to the right of the stage, "- have decided that my current role in Stark Industries will be handed off to my personal intern and mentee, Peter parker." at this, the young man standing behind Tony steps forward giving a small sheepish wave before returning to his original position. "And eventually, once Pepper retires, which thankfully won't be for another decade or two, He will take over as CEO." Once again a few reporters start to chatter but, with a stern look from the man Harley now knows to be called Happy, they all quiet down.

"And now we get to the question which I'm sure is on everyone's mind, Why?, Why am I announcing this now? Well, that is because I have yet to find a replacement as a Hero. As I'm sure some of you are aware, My position as an Avenger will be going to Spiderman, another one of my Mentees who is currently working as a vigilante based in Queens. But," he pauses "We have collectively decided that there are certain features of the Iron man suit which are too valuable to the safety of the world to pass up. Because of this, I would also like to announce that I will be launching a three year programme, overseen by Spiderman and myself to find the next Iron Man!" after allowing a small round of applause, the man's demeanor then changed to one serious and grim as he hushed the crowd."Now, before everyone jumps at the opportunity I would like to make a few things very clear. First, we are not looking for someone who will be a carbon copy of me, We are looking for someone who has the potential to be greater than I ever was and ever be. And second, think carefully about whether or not you actually want this. Being a superhero is a massive undertaking,  physically, socially and mentally, and i would like to stress the fact that this lifestyle is by no means as glamorous as the media makes it out to be and you will be pushed to your limits... I will take questions now."

Immediately, every reporter in the room raised their hand. "You, back right with the white blouse." Tony announced,

"Will applications for this Programme be open to the public?"
"Yes," he replied "Anybody between the ages of 17 and 20 can apply from any social background, gender or ethnicity, although I would like to point out that I already have a few individuals in mind."

Another person asked "What skillsets will you be looking for during the application process."
"Individuals will need to be intelligent above all else, preferably with proficiency in engineering and robotics. Combat and martial arts training are a plus but not required."

"What will the initial application process look like?"
"The first challenge in the application process will be to submit blueprints and a prototype for a device that can be used in battle to protect civilians. I would like to point out that offensive weapons will not be accepted. These will need to be submitted to the PO box listed on the Stark industries website and the applications will close in exactly six months. Next questio-“

Harley turned off the TV.
He needed to get to work.

I would then have time skips throughout the next few chapters showing snippets of harley meeting Peter for the first time, him being reunited with Tony and potentially have some conflict with another contestant, (setting up their transition into the main villain) but eventually Harley would take his position as iron lad and join spiderman as a vigilante before the two of them end up fighting a villain and Peter nearly dies, revealing his identity to Harley (and possibly confessing his feelings if you want to make it a parker fanfic)

If you want you could then end the fanfic with them forming the young avengers or a similar team (which could then lead on to a sequel if you so wish :))
