Petyr watched his sister pick at her food. All evening she had been quiet. Seemingly lost in her thoughts. It was obvious to Petyr that she had been crying. Yet despite how many times he had tried to talk to her, to ask her what had happened, she had just cut him off, assuring him that all was fine. He had attempted to talk to her about what had happened between her and Varys earlier that day. But she had snapped at him. The usually calm and quiet mockingbird growling at him, as she had shouted that Varys had said nothing. That he was telling stories, and that she didn't want to hear about Varys, their conversation or the Red Keep ever again. Petyr knowing that he should try and say something to ease his sister's obviously frayed nerves. But what that should be, he had no idea. Especially given the fact that she would tell him nothing.
"Tobas informed me that Jaime Lannister was here earlier. Did he have anything to say that I should know about?" Petyr suddenly asked, as he wiped the corners of his mouth with his napkin.
"What? Er........no. I mean........Yes Jamie Lannister was here. But he wasn't here for anything important. Just.........just to ask me something. That's all." (Y/n) replied, as she pushed her plate away. Petyr noticing that none of the food had actually been eaten.
"And what unimportant thing would that be, (Y/n)? Jaime Lannister doesn't normally venture from the Red Keep without a good reason. Surely, he could have asked you while you were there earlier today. I know I saw him around before............."
"STOP! JUST STOP IT, PETYR." (Y/n) shouted as she jumped to her feet. Banging her fists on the table as she glared at her brother.
"Not everything that goes on around here will make you richer or more powerful. Not every word that is uttered can be used by you against someone. Believe it or not, brother. The world does not revolve around you and your nefarious plans. Jaime Lannister just came to ask me an unimportant question. It was something and nothing. To be honest, I can't even really remember what it was. If you are that concerned, maybe I can ask him if I ever see him again. But as I am sure that he will have more important things to do, and that I will not be going to the Red Keep again, you will just have to try and not lose sleep over it. Now, if you don't mind, I am going to bed. It has been a long day, and I will be quite happy when its over." (Y/n) told him, as she moved to leave the room. Petyr taking hold of her arm as she tried to pass.
"I am worried about you, (Y/n). You are never like this. Not with me. Please tell me what happened. Please." Petyr said softly. The whoremonger even more concerned as he saw the glisten of more tears in his sister's eyes.
It was true that (Y/n) had never spoken to him in such a fashion before. That even though she knew of his schemes, of his dealings, and all the other things that he had done, she still loved him. The one person in the world that Petyr knew would never turn against him. So, to see her like this, to see her so strange towards him. To see the tears in her eyes, made Petyr, a man that few would believe had any decent emotions, or feelings at all for that matter, feel sick to his stomach with worry.
"(Y/n). Please........."
"Petyr. I'm sorry.........I just. I'm fine, really. I promise that Varys didn't say anything. That Jaime Lannister said nothing that you need to know. I'm just a little tired. I'm sure that I will be back to my usual self in the morning. I need to rest, that's all. Goodnight." (Y/n) replied apologetically, as she leaned down and kissed her brother softly on the forehead.
"That is good, (Y/n) because I need you to come with me tomorrow. The imp has asked if I will bring you with me to the Keep. He said that he has found some old book that you might be interest." Petyr replied. Now more curious than worried as (Y/n) shook her head.
"No, I am fine. I don't want to go. I have seen enough of the Keep. I never want to see it again. I..........."
"But you always enjoy going to the Keep. Usually, you are begging me to take you with me. And I thought that you liked Tyrion. You know that keeping good relations with the Lannisters is important to me. And even old Tywin himself, seems to like you. If you never want to go to the Keep again after tomorrow, I will understand. But I would appreciate it if you would come with me. I need your disarming smile." Petyr continued. (Y/n) shoulders dropping in defeat, as she sighed heavily and nodded reluctantly. The young mockingbird knowing that she could never let her brother down, if he needed her help.
If it was only Tyrion that she would see, then another trip to the Keep may not be too bad. She had always enjoyed the little man's company. The youngest Lannister was quite charming, witty, and could always make her laugh. Their conversations sometimes lasting for hours. And at this present moment in time, maybe meeting up with him wouldn't be such a bad idea. She could use something to take her mind off his brother. To drown out the thoughts about how Jaime would use the advice that she had given him, to win over his fair lady. Thoughts about how he would make the lucky lady laugh. About the compliments he would give her. About the small bunch of wildflowers that he would present her with, that would make her smile. Would make her heart beat a little quicker. And about all the other wonderful little, sweet things that he would do for her. (Y/n) knowing that she was going to have to accept that Jaime was never to be hers. And that it was time to try and forget about him.
"Very well, Petyr. If you need me, I will of course join you. And perhaps Tyrion has found something that will keep me busy. He does know that I have a soft spot for the old books in the great library." (Y/n) replied. Trying to smile as she quietly prayed to the gods that she would not meet Jaime and his lady at the castle. That she could get through the day, and the rest of her life without thinking about the golden lion ever again. That she could stop her heart from loving him.
"I'll leave you now. As I said, I am just a little tired. But rest assured, that tomorrow I will be as disarming as always." (Y/n) added with a sad chuckle. Kissing her brother once again and making her way to her room. (Y/n) not sure whether her broken heart would actually let her sleep, or not.
