I hated traveling in the car.
Imagine being stuck in a car with four other boys, all of which were your brothers. It would be chaotic, wouldn't it?
Well, that's me right now. Sitting shotgun, next to my eldest brother, while our four other siblings argue and attempt to attack each other as best as possible, whilst being buckled in.
We are on our way to Lyceum Hemitheos, which means Demigod School. No one calls it that. Out of the 7 Greek Demigod Schools, ours has to be the one with the fancy name. Others are called Demigod High of North America, or The Demigod College of Africa. But instead of Demigod Secondary of Europe, ours is known as my LH. How creative!
The schools were created in 1856 to keep Demigods safe and help them control their abilities. You start school at 15 years old and finish when you are 21. Most demigods, try to live everyday life, and those who want to keep in touch with their abilities, often end up working as Demigod teachers, or Demigod trackers. The few lucky ones, if you could call them that, are the ones that go on missions, defeat monsters, and save people. It's a risky and dangerous job, but those who are willing become legends.
As you have probably guessed. I am a Demigod. If you haven't, keep up.
My father is Hades, God of the underworld. This means I can have abilities such as shadow traveling, necromancy, precognition with death, umbrakinesis, osteokinesis, geokinesis, creating hell-fires, and a few others. To sum it all up, the children of Hades can be very scary.
Some of my brothers got "lucky". They got a few special powers, but none that are difficult to control and manipulate, meaning they can live among mortals more easily than others.
My oldest brother, Aziel was gifted, with shadow traveling and precognition with death, the basics for a Hades demigod. He left LH three years ago, to go live in the mortal world, we have little contact with him, but we still try to see him whenever we go home for the holidays. He lives in an apartment in London with his Girfriend, Nicole. To be honest, none of us really like her, but we put with her, because whenever we go over, her dog is there, and she gives us food.
Then there is Marcellus. he too was gifted with the usual abilities, however, he ran away from the demigod life altogether. He is 23, a year younger than Aziel. After he left school, he got in a huge fight with Mum and Aziel and left. No one heard from him again. We have our suspicions that he went to East Asia, a place where he always wanted to go and get lost, however, Hades demigods are almost impossible to track, and we hope that one day he will return home.
Next, there is Eliot and Orson. They are my mischievous, twin brothers. Or so they liked to be called. I just think they are annoying. Along with the basics, they were also gifted with Geokinesis, meaning they have the ability to move minerals of the earth, which gets really annoying when they do it deliberately to drop a rock on your head or salt in your coffee. They are going into their last year, and hope to become Demigod trackers when they are older.
And the last of my brothers is Micah. His name is Michael, but he hates his name, as it is after our ex-stepdad. He is going into his third year. He was gifted with shadow traveling, precognition with death, and the ability to create hell-fires. He is definitely the smart one out of our family, besides from me of course, he often has his nose stuck in a book whether it be fiction or non-fiction, if you hadn't seen the chaos he could create you would think he was a child of Athena, not to say that Athena demigods can't cause chaos, because, man, they are competitive.
Now you may be wondering, how did I get shotgun next to Aziel, when I have such powerful brothers? Because I'm the favorite. Well, that and the fact that I was cursed with all of the powers I mentioned before.
Remember when Neville Longbottom says in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; "Why's it always me?" That quote sums up my entire life.
My mum, Danica Drewitt, is a Demigod of Ares. She was a powerful soldier, recognized for her bravery, however, she was injured on one of her missions, and had to quit. She merged into the mortal economy but longed for another connection to the Greek Myths. She married a mortal named Michael but then fell in love with none other than the Devil himself. She cheated on Micheal five times. He found out while she was pregnant with me, and immediately filed for a divorce. A year after I was born, Micah was born. My mom named him after her ex-husband, which infuriated Hades, so he cursed her most prized possession, her baby girl.
Surprise! That me. I was cursed with all the demigod powers, a child of Hades could get. You may think that that doesn't sound that bad, well having to learn to control it all was. Imagine trying to read a book about how to silence a room, but the room is too loud for you to concentrate, so you have to try and silence it, without knowing the proper way how just to find out that you should have done it a different way. That is what it was like trying to control my powers.
Shadow travel and precognition were the easiest because they are the most common abilities a Hade's demigod could get. Geokinesis and controlling Hell-fires were ok because I had brothers, who could go through the experience with me. Necromancy was difficult because I had to communicate with the dead, and not many people want to hear millions of stories and riddles of the past, present, and future. Umbrakinesis was mildly challenging, generating and manipulating the darkness was made easier when you become familiar with traveling through shadows. However, osteokinesis was the most difficult. Learning to summon, manipulate and control bones, sounds creepy enough, never mind when you have to draw them from a grave knowing they were human bones. I was invited into the MedWard to see if I could control bones, inside living people, which would be helpful when bandaging breaks and fractures, but as you know, my father is the God of The Underworld, Tartarus, and Death, not living, so that idea was forgotten about.
With so much on my plate, I had no time to make friends. So by the time I finished the third year I learned, that it was better to just stick to myself, only talking when necessary, however, people knew me and avoided me. I have been told by my social butterfly brothers, that I hold an air of confidence and power, and most people were scared of me. I like it this way. Being avoided and ignored, but feared.
And that my friends is how I ended up in the front seat of Aziel's car, on the way to another boring year of school
