I loved playing in the woods. The grass under my bare feet and the wind in my wings. Flying was the best part of the day. Today Mama wanted to teach me how to stay in one spot in the air. I was excited, Mama said if I succeeded she would let me go to the city for the next errand run. I would have to wear a cloak, but I was ready nonetheless. I was supposed to wait for Papa to return from the city before I could start practicing. But I was impatient. So I ventured into the city to meet up with him. The city was amazing; everyone looked and pointed at me. I felt like a celebrity! A man wearing all white approached me and asked if I wanted to go to a village celebration. I shook my head since I had never heard of a village celebration. I mean, my colony had parties, but it wasn't the same. The man creased his eyebrows and grabbed my arm. Dragging me into a life I never would have chosen. I was a stupid child. That day was the last day I saw my father, he was cloaked, and staring at me with wide eyes. Reaching out as I was shoved into a box and taken away. I will never forget the fear on his face. As he called out my middle name.
