There really was something about Choi Han that just sort of absorbed Roksu's focus.

Roksu didn't put a lot of thought into it. She was the heroine of a novel, it was obvious that she would have the charisma to draw in a person's attention and keep it on her.

Considering that she was also the type of protagonist that Roksu found herself most drawn towards, it made perfect sense.

That was why Roksu didn't think there was anything strange about how her eyes always seemed to seek Choi Han out when the woman was nearby.

Why she found it effortless to rely upon Choi Han's strength and purity of character.

Roksu, or rather Kim Rok Soo, had spent the entirety of their life avoiding relying on others. In the moments where they had relied upon others, it had taken time to build up trust and it had always ended in tragedy.

There was something about the overpowered protagonist that Kim Rok Soo had read about that inspired a belief that relying upon her wouldn't end in tragedy.

After all, she was incredible enough to kill a dragon and defeat all who dared to challenge her. It went without saying that she was unlikely to fall victim to any minor threat.

Choi Han's return from her errand wasn't met with much fanfare.

She'd succeeded in her quest of protecting Rosalyn and Lock, even bringing the pair with her and come back to Roksu like a dog playing fetch.

That was the concerning part actually.

Choi Han was supposed to begin the main plot now. She was supposed to meet the crown prince during the celebration, saving him from some mid-tier danger and impressing upon him her strength. Then Cale was going to insult her and deride her at every turn throughout the social season.

It wasn't a very entertaining plot truthfully and it was full of cliches.

Roksu had prepared for the incident. Having Choi Han remain nearby during the day of the attack and waiting for her opportunity to go meet with the apparent fated man of her destiny.

Only... the danger never occurred. All that happened was Cale beating the snot out of that creep Venion and then the ceremony resumed without much issue.

Choi Han didn't appear all that impressed by or interested in the prince either. She'd just remained at Roksu's side with her lips pursed into a firm line.

She looked a bit like a guard-dog trying to impress upon her master that she was a good girl.

Clearly the plot had changed. The likeliest reason was something to do with one of the things Roksu had changed, although she couldn't think of anything she'd done that would impact this aspect of the plot.

She felt guilty, unintentionally keeping Choi Han from her destiny or whatnot.

That was why Roksu felt obligated to meet with Choi Han that evening.

The pair sat in the garden maintained by the villa. The gentle night air sweeping past them and gently carrying petals in the wind.

It really was a romance novel, Roksu couldn't help but think dryly.

Choi Han hadn't said a word since she'd requested to see her. Seemingly content to sit in silence at Roksu's side.

She surely had questions for Roksu. Questions that would probably require yet another visit to the temple of the god of death to answer. How had she known Lock's village would be in danger? Where to meet Rosalyn? Details about the dragon's imprisonment? The entire issue of the secret organization?
