Trouble

The night before try-outs, I was a nervous wreck. I stayed in bed until noon, hiding under the sheets because I was too much of a coward to face the only friends I will ever have. There was nothing that could've gotten me out of bed... except for Sirius flying into my bedroom and physically dragging me to the court yard- which he did as I screamed and cursed extremely loud. It was especially embarrassing because I was still in my pajamas (shorts and a loose fitting t-shirt) and I hadn't brushed my hair or teeth. I tried to go back but they dragged me to Whomping Willow and threatened to throw me into the tree and leave me there until Sunday. It didn't seem that bad except for the fact that I had no water or food. "Ugh fine I'll do it-" I started

"YES! Okay, drink this special drink and you'll do great." Sirius handed me a stolen goblet from the great hall.

I narrowed my eyes, "Does this have steroids? Or other performance enhancing drugs? Because I've read about Lyle Alzado, and that really didn't end well for him."

"Ster- No! No. It's just, um, some... good stuff?"

"Hmm," I grabbed the drink and downed it in one gulp. James smiled suspiciously. "C'mon," I grumbled, "let's go watch me crash and burn."

As I walked onto the quidditch pitch, I realized that everyone else was in their robes and I looked like a total slob. The wind blew harshly on my bare legs and arms. Ella was leaning on her stick, talking to one of the red-heads. She glanced at Peter, waved, blushed, and went back to her conversation. Remus gave me his robe- the world would fall to pieces without gentlemen- and despite it being Gryffindor, no one seemed to really care. The captain this year as the same as the one last year: Shannon Ryans. "OKAY EVERYONE" she shouted, "JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE ON THE TEAM LAST YEAR DOES NOT ASSURE YOU THE SAME SPOT, OR ANY SPOT THAT IS, ON THE TEAM THIS YEAR! HOWEVER IT IS LIKELY THAT IF YOU HAVE KEPT UP YOUR SKILLS, YOU WILL PLAY THE SAME POSITION! I WANT YOU TO SEPARATE YOURSELVES BASED ON THE POSITIONS YOU THINK YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED AT! OKAY? LET'S GO!"

"She seems so much nicer when she's doing homework." I muttered. Peter chuckled. Then, the color drained from my face. I had no idea what position I wanted to play. I discussed my dilemma with James and Sirius. They said that since the person who played chaser last year finished school, I should go for chaser. So I did, along with three other  people. The odds were obviously not in my favor.

We all partnered up and I was left with a scrawny sixth year, Martian that only joined because his mother wanted him to exercise instead of sitting on his bed and reading all weekend. I could tell he wasn't much competition, he told me that the only time he had ever been on a broom stick was for a class and he broke his arm on the second day and was excused from the class for the rest of the year.

We tossed the quaffle back and forth, adding skills each time to make it more challenging. To my surprise, I never dropped it once. Maybe Martian had a good arm...

After, the people trying out for keeper played goalie for the ones trying out for chasers. I made every single shot. It was miracle. Before I knew it try outs were over and I was sitting at the Ravenclaw, having people coming up to me, congratulating me for doing so well. Had I really done that well?

A week later results came out, I stood in the back of the crowd with Sirius's hand on my shoulder, "You'll get in," He said and smiled down at me, I hadn't realized how much taller he was than me. After the crowd cleared for the most part, I walked up to the board. To my great surprise, I made it in well all snuck into Hogsmeade around ten o'clock through the Whomping Willow. We snuck candy from the shops and got at least a gallon of butterbeer. We celebrated all night, Peter fell asleep first so the rest of us played truth or dare. It was a bit childish, but fun nonetheless. I had never played the game before, I had heard of it, but it was a Muggle game therefore banned from the house and our lives.

James told me it would be fun and said that he would go first and I would go after him. "Okay, Riley, truth or dare?"

"Um... er... truth?"

"No," James said. "Wrong answer."

"Oh..."

He laughed, "I'm just kidding... but dare is more fun."

"Okay then, dare."

"I dare you to tell Bellatrix to go screw herself and then hex her."

"No!"

"YES!"

"NO"

"You're no fun..." James mumbled.

"At least I'm not stupid."

Remus and Sirius laughed and James smirked at me. "So anyways, Sirius truth or dare?"

"Is that even a question? Dare obviously."

"I dare you to- um- wear a skirt all day tomorrow."

"Pfft, easy, I did that in the second year. But okay. And it has to be yours."

"Yeah, yeah."

It went on like this all night. I tried to stay up, but even the roar of James's laugh couldn't keep me up. My eyelids felt heavy, the last thing I remember from that night was Remus telling James to stop throwing pillows at Peter who was deep asleep. Eventually I fell asleep with my head resting on Sirius's shoulder.

That morning I woke up groggy and incomprehensive. Peter was shaking me and Frank Longbottom was standing in the corner with an anxious expression on his face. "Wh- what's going?"

"Dumbledore has send a search party out for us. We're in so much trouble." Peter explained.

I stood up and suddenly remember everything that had happened last night. "Oh my god, Mom's gonna kill me if I get caught..."

We ran out of the shack, the morning dew soaked my bare feet,  my shoes were in my hands. I had no time to put them on. I stumbled over branches and rocks and tried not to lose my pace. Sirius and Remus were infront of everyone, I was a little less than a yard behind them, Peter was behind everyone else, but not too much. We were still a ways away form the castle and James stopped in his tracks. "Guys." he said. We all stopped. "What is it?" I asked.

"We need a plan. What do we say? What so we do? We can't just waltz in there like nothing happened."

James had a point, if we walked into class all nonchalant and told the truth my parents were going to get a letter from the school and I would be getting a howler from home. That would be bad. Really bad.

James devised the plan. A plan that was sure to fail. And it did.

I have a plan for this story- finally. It should get a bit more exciting and dramatic in the next couple of chapters.
