Sometimes, I regret everything. Now was especially one of those times. Why would I ever agree to try out for Quidditch? Oh, yeah, I remember why: Because I was stupid and desperate. That's why I stepped onto the Quidditch pitch on a random Tuesday evening. I had stolen a broom from the school supplies closet. I pushed off the ground and flew up in the air. The cold air stung my face as I tried to go faster. I took slow, deep breaths as I peeked at the ground. I screamed when I saw how far up I was and descended several feet.
I was going to die. I was sure of it. I flew upwards a few feet. I muttered words of encouragement to myself. I tried flew around, going faster each seconds. Maybe I wasn't so bad. Then, I looked at the ground again. Huge mistake. I lost control and started plummeting to the ground. My life flashed before my eyes. I could say that I went down bravely, but that would be a lie. I went down screaming bloody murder. I gained control about seven feet above ground, but then I fell off the broomstick and fell seven feet. I laid on my back for several moments and just breathed extremely slowly. I put my hands over my eyes.
"Never again." I told myself. I heard someone rush over to me. "Are you okay?" They asked.
"I think I'm dead." I moaned.
"Um, let me help you up." He said. I looked at the boy. It was Peter.
"Hi, Peter." I said.
"Hey, Riley." He said.
"Are you going to try out for Quidditch?" Peter asked. I shook my head. He gave me a quizzical look. "Sirius and James told me that you were."
I groaned. "Don't worry I would either after that nasty fall." he assured me. "It wasn't that bad..." I said. He nodded and we walked back to the castle. I honestly felt bad for Peter. James and Sirius were always kind of teasing him and making him the butt of their jokes sometimes. He was a little short for his age and I was a few inches taller then him. He was nice and funny, but I couldn't understand how he could stand James sometimes. Maybe he was just as desperate as I was. Just before we entered the castle, I remembered something I needed to say. "Hey, Peter?" I said. He turned back and looked at me "Yeah?"
"On the train, you offered me some food and I kind of snapped at you." He nodded he head. "Well I just wanted to apologize, my social skills are, well..." My voice trailed off.
"Yeah, I get it. It's fine" he answered. And we continued down the vast hall. I skipped dinner and went straight to bed. My arm ached and I was extremely tired.

Three days had passed by since I had gotten onto that broomstick and I was still terrified. But nevertheless, that night I snuck out of the common room and went to the field. It was ideal weather for flying. No wind, not too cold, and the full moon shone brightly so I had plenty of light. Maybe it was a good omen, I thought. Then, reality called and reminded me that I don't get those. I took the broom out of the shed and pushed off the ground. I actually did pretty well. I did a few laps and did some simple tricks that I had read about in Quidditch Through the Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp. I was actually considering asking my mom for a broom, and then I looked down. I nearly fell twenty feet.
I put the broom back in the shed and hurried back to the castle. Nobody seemed to be awake. I was feeling pretty damn lucky. And then, of course, my luck completely turned. I was near the Great Hall and I saw Mrs. Norris. Nasty Flich's even nastier cat. I slowly backed up and then burst into a sprint in the other direction. And as you might have guessed I crashed into something. But not just any something, an invisible something. I looked around bewildered."Who's there?" I whispered. I waved my hands in front of me like a blind man.
Then, I saw a foot. I was hardly able to scream when I found someone's hand covering my mouth. I felt the urge to bite it. I did. I heard a yelp of pain and then I turned around and kneed the person who so rudely interrupted my screaming. It was none other than Sirius Black. "What was that for?" he hissed. Many sassy things ran through my mind that I could have said. But me, being me said "It hurt." He squinted at me. "What?"
"Why were you invisible?' I asked. But he didn't answer and he didn't need to. James, Peter, and a sickly looking Remus appeared out from under what I couldn't believe was an Invisibility Cloak. "Is that an Invisibility Cloak?" I asked excitedly and unnecessarily. They all nodded execpt for poor Remus who was being supported by a sleepy Peter. I had many questions. Am infinate amount jst for them, but I needed to know: "What are you doing here and what's wrong with Remus?"
The four of them exchanged nervous glances. "He's ill and what are you doing here?" James asked. "I-I asked you first." I said as soon as I sid it I realized how childish it was. "What are you? Eight?" James snapped. I scoffed at him.
" I was simply practicing." I said in a very dismissive tone. "Practicing what?" Sirius asked. "What are you doing?"
"W-we're just taking Remus to the Hospital Wing." Peter said.
"Under an Invisibility Cloak?" I said dubiously.
"Go big or go home, am I right?" Remus said weakly.
"You're a long way from the Hospital Wing." I pointed out. "And the Gryffindor Common Room." I eyed the suspiciously. Peter bit his lip. They looked worried. Remus was getting worse by the second. "Whatever." I said and promptly walked away. I heard their sighs of relief. I walked several feet and turned around. I couldn't let them off that easily. As I came to the spot where we crashed, I saw a parchment. I opened it up and saw something amazing: a map of Hogwarts. However, it wasn't a regular map, it showed my secret passages and best of all, where everyone on the grounds were. I quickly scanned the nap and found the four boys I was looking for. They were almost out of the castle. I followed them. Desperation can make you do funny things.
