So, on the upside or mission was a success. Three villains bagged, footage of the criminals in our hands thanks to their own mother, and nothing stolen.
On the other hand I got a poison kiss from one of said villains and spent fifteen minutes paralysed on the floor. Lena spent a good portion of that time documenting the lab and crime scene, marking on her tablet our entry points and actions for when Wonder Woman asked for an after actions report. She was nice enough not to walk over me, and even nicer to help me up once the paralysis wore off.
Gathering downstairs in the building lobby, I was being coddled and I didn't like it. I had been given a warm blanket and soup. To be fair, the soup was in a cup and I still stalked around talking to Palmer Tech's guards. It turned out that the Quinzel Kids were not the only villains doing an op today;
"So yeah, after that chick stalks in with my keycard, she goes up and downloads the mainframe for the computer. Then apparently self-distructs!" The guard was also sporting a blanket and a cup of soup as he described his encounter. I looked over the footage on the system computers, the woman was tallish, maybe 5'7 and dressed like a delivery driver. A long brunette pony-tail hung down the back of her neck and the face was easily identifiable. Everything had some kind of electronic prosthetic look, as though her skin had been coated in a layer of plastic and fibre-optic cables laid along the length of her body.
She was strong too, to pick up a man that size and casually throw him.
The mainframe computer room was currently torched, the body after downloading had left, heading towards the bio-lab and into a dead zone without cameras. Then promptly back-tracked and took up position in the room, before the creature caught fire. Everything in the room was fried as though a small smelter had blown liquid metal everywhere.
The footage in the mainframe room was spotty, crackling and static filled from the damage the cyborg woman had done to everything, but whoever had been controlling her had clearly seen the fight in the bio-lab and deemed the cyborg unrecoverable.
"Do you think she was like that naturally, or somebody did it to her?" I looked back to where Starfire was watching the screen as well, close behind me, and sighed.
"The fact that she self-destructed. I'd say she's a victim. The appearance looks similar to Organism One drones, at least to how I've heard them described. Suppsedly Organism One was a hero who got corrupted by alien tech. They like to use people like this, and have several ways to mind control people!"
I watched, then ignored as Starfire touched the screen, where the frozen image of the drone was. "I could not imagine anything worse, than having evil technology put inside myself. It's bad enough how people use it, but to be taken over?"
I couldn't say I disagreed with her.
Bingly Binngly Beep. Bingly Binngly Beep!
Jerking, I hesitated then realized my phone was ringing and pulled it out. Bumping the answer button, a rather worried and upset Supergirl was on the line.
"Hey! So we went well here!" I opened, analyzing her face, "I gather you op didn't go well? Are you both okay?"
A shake of her head, followed by a gulp and a confident "Yes." I blinked at the confusing response. "I think Sharkie's in shock. There was an adult hero here, who crossed a line. A supervillain kid was injured, badly and is in Emergency right now. The doctors say she -" Supergirl gulped again.
Okay, Supergirl was in shock as well, that was obvious. Straightening and putting down my cup I took charge, "Supergirl, concise. Focus on the details, what is the nature of the injury and why are you calling me?"
That helped her focus in, "She's stable, her life's not in danger, but she's lost her legs. Like, completely if a super-powered healer or surgeon can't be brought in soon. Even then, the doctors say it won't be as simple as re-attaching. Do you have anyone you can reach out to?"
I nodded at that. Super powered healers were common, but also typically very busy.
"Also!" I watched the view from Supergirl's camera pan around, moving to show a gorgeous, dark haired goth girl in a cape.
I blinked at the sudden change but listened as she talked, "Hi, so Raven here. I'm a magic user, all my family are. I don't have the kind of healing abilities to solve this, but one or more relatives of mine may be able to help Bolt with her legs, if a message can be sent soon. "
I nodded at the clarity of the message, "Except you and the others are under arrest, and not allowed to make calls or send messages until your interviewed!"
"Exactly, she doesn't have a lot of time. I can give you a message but I need you to forward that to Bad Penny via E-Claire's message board." Raven looked worried, they were clearly in a hallway in the hospital right now and figures were passing back and forth quickly behind them with lots of yelling.
"Bolt is a friend of mine, and it was mine and my brother's stupid idea to do this mission. I would appreciate you letting me help here!" she said sheepishly.
"I'd love to work with you!" My mouth said on auto-pilot. Then immediately my brain over-rode it. "And you helping here, or agreeing to work with the Titan's will go some way to reduce or change any sentence you get, if you get any!"
I was surprised by the look Raven gave me, but glossed over it when Starfire helpfully said "I'll send the message! I just need to tell E-Claire to contact your family and get them down there?"
Raven nodded, "ER, at St Hope Medical," then Starfire cheerfully walked off, getting out her metal book.
"Okay Then!" There was no time to wonder about Starfire's helpfulness, "Supergirl, still there?"
The camera changed back with a subdued, "Yes. still holding the phone!"
I nodded, "We're pretty much done here. I don't think I can leave yet but I'll have Lena and Star head up to you. I'm close to where Martian Manhunter and The Flash were chasing the Inscrutable Machine, thought I'd check in with them first!"
"Understood!"
"And Supergirl?" I stopped her hanging up, noting her hesitation. "You got the kid out. That was the best you could do. Now get yourself a stupid blanket and some soup, try not to kick yourself too much!"
She nodded, and we hung up. Taking a breath, I called in a favour.
