The rest of that day I felt like my heart was going to explode out of my chest. I was a little nervous and confused but I still wanted to follow through with my new plans for Saturday. I walked to my locker to grab my bag when I saw there was a post-it note on my locker.

It said "looking forward to Saturday" with a winky face drawn at the bottom. I took it off the note and smiled at it before I put it in my pocket.

I made it home and sat in the dining room with my mom while she was collecting the chinaware to clean

"Did you have a good day?" She asked

"I did actually, thanks for asking"

"What made today so good?"

"I just like the teachers I have this year"

"That's great. So should we expect another principal's list certificate?"

"Most likely" and then we heard the door close loudly

"And should we expect another call from the principal?" My mom asked Johnny as he walked into the dining room. She greeted him with a hug that he didn't return but he did smile widely at her.

"No, why did they call? I didn't even do anything today" Johnny groaned. Him and his friends are always getting in trouble, mainly for fighting but it could really be for anything.

"Keep it that way. Don't need you getting into more trouble"

"I won't" he said but I think all of us knew he was lying. "Hey Jac?"

"What?"

"Was that Tyler guy hitting on you?"

"Uh no" I said. This perked my mom's attention and since Johnny said that quite loudly, Sid walked into the dining room.

"What was that?" He asked

Sid had a list of things I wasn't allowed to do. At the top of the list of things was no boys. It was by far the most annoying one. He is very strict and controlling when it comes to me. When it came to Johnny he didn't have rules he would just yell at him if Johnny did something he didn't like. "Nothing" I responded quickly

"What's this about a boy"

"There's no boy. Tyler is a girl" I said giving Johnny a pleading look to go along with my lie

"Yeah, I was making sure Tyler wasn't hitting her, not hitting on her. I worded it wrong"

"Think before you speak, John. Make sure your sentences make sense and convey what you are actually trying to say" our mom said. I think she knew we were lying but she didn't want either of us to get in trouble.

"I'm going upstairs" I said

"Yeah me too" Johnny said

We both went up the steps and once we were in the clear Johnny asked me again. "So was he hitting on you?"

"No"

"What was going on? I saw you guys talking"

"I-I was trying to ask him out"

He stifled a laugh. "You? Asking someone out? How'd that go?"

"Not well, I didn't even end up asking him"

"Maybe that's a good thing, you know they don't let you date. What were you gonna do if by the slightest chance he said yes"

"If by the slightest chance he said yes" I said, mocking him. "I was just gonna sneak out" I finished with a shrug

"Jac why are you so funny today?" he startled laughing, walked into his room and shut his door in my face

I went into my room and did a split call with Susan and Barbara. "Hello? Can you both hear me"
