I was making my way to a house that belongs to a family that you could say is a little broken in a few ways. The mother and father were still together and had a decent marriage but I was their kids that were the cracks well, one in particular. Their eldest daughter Bethany or Beth as I knew her after all we went to the same school so I have seen her around. The reason I was on my way to their house is that I have a reputation as a good girl the perfect role model so to stop their second child from picking up any bad habits from their first child I was recruited to babysit. Nothing wrong with that I mean I have had to pick up my younger brother and sister from daycare a few times and all the kids there instantly took a liking to me so winning over one more should be no problem.
It was bloody freezing out today so I picked up my pace in the hopes to get into the warm house quicker. Once I got there I knocked on the door and a tall woman no older than 40 opened the door. She took a look at me as if sizing me up and then smiled as she ushered me in and I just looked around.
"So you must be Anna I'm Miranda and this is my husband, Lambert," Miranda said as a taller and more muscular man came into view.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you and don't worry if your child is a handful I am sure I can handle them," I said with a smile.
"Well we sure hope so but if you have any problems or questions here are our numbers, now if we don't want to miss our reservation we should be going," Lambert said as he and his wife left.
I had been given all the information about rooms and bedtimes along with how to make the TV work a few days ago so I headed to Jake's room.
"Hi Jake I'm Anna I'm going to be looking after you tonight and put you to bed okay," I said giving him a sweet smile.
He was a young boy only about 7 years old and he looked at me a little unsure until he smiled and I walked over to him.
"Anna," He said as if to make sure he had heard me right.
"Yeah so your bedtime is in two hours anything you like to do before bed," I said as I walked into his room and sat with him.
The two of us sat talked and played games in his room for a full two hours that by the time it was time for bed he was more than happy to go and practically got ready by himself. Once he was down I left his room closed the door quietly and headed down to the main room. I froze when I got there as just laying on one of the sofas out cold was none other than Beth I hadn't even realised that she was here.
I took a seat on the other sofa and put my air pods in and played my music after all it's not like I wanted to wake her up. You may think that I don't like her but that is not true we just hardly ever speak so I just see her as a classmate.
I was listening to my music in a peaceful silence when I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Beth was walking up. I pulled one of my air pods and looked at her as she sat up she began to stretch with a yawn and then she saw me.
"Oh that's right my parents mentioned a babysitter would be here to get Jake to sleep, so is he," Beth asked as she sat normally on the sofa.
"Out cold," I said and Beth nodded.
"So how long was I out," Beth said.
"Well when did you go to sleep," I asked.
"7:30 ish," Beth said.
"About an hour and a half," I said after glancing at the clock.
"Guess I could hang with you till my parents get home," Beth said.
"Wait really you want to hang out with me," I said stunned that a girl like her would ever consider hanging out with me.
"Why not I don't see anyone else here," Beth said.
"But you're the popular girl the top dog number one and I'm just, me," I said.
"Yeah well just you are the only one here right now that is my age," Beth said.
"And that means...," I said.
"It just means your company in the current situation is preferable," Beth said.
"Well I guess I should start with my name, it's Anna, Anna Brooklyn," I said.
"Cool I am assuming you know my first name so my last name is Mannet," Beth said.
Bethany Mannet dear God even her name is beautiful.
"So miss Brooklyn got a boyfriend that you like," Beth said and I looked down.
"No," I said hiding the fact that I was a lesbian.
"What about you," I asked.
"Naaa after all my parents would never agree with any of the guys I hang if I were to bring one of them home," Beth said with a laugh.
"Understandable I guess," I said.
"So I know it's only been a month but how is senior year treating you so far," Beth asked.
I was about to answer when the door opened and Miranda and Lambert came in.
"Oh your back," I said.
"Yes we decided as it is a school night didn't want to keep you out too long," Lambert said.
"I see," I said.
"Well the house is still standing and our son is in bed good job," Lambert said handing me a few bills.
"Thank you sir," I said as I counted the $50 he had given me.
"Well see ya Anna," Beth said as I left.
