After finding that bloodied corpse, we followed Kite through the land, searching for more evidence on the ants.
"It's safe to assume that the Chimera Ants have assumed control of NGL's interior. The question is if we can reach their nest before the Queen births the King." Kite called out as he ran ahead of us.
Our path was suddenly cut off, and Kite jumped back. My eyes widened as I noticed the huge bug lime creature in front of us. It had a beatle like shell, but a beak of a bird.
This has got to be one of those damn ants. It snickered as it blocked our path.
"Oh, goodie! A bunch of children, and a-" The Ant was suddenly cut off by a large spike of ice stabbing through its stomach. It coughed before doubling over, clutching it's stomach.
"Wh-What the..." It choked, and I lowered my arm, which had just shot the ice spike at the insect. It's head suddenly shot up, glaring at me.
"Hah! Foolish girl! I can still survive without a stom-!" The bug cut itself off when my nen spiked. It froze, sensing my power as it gasped. It took a step back, and I grinned.
Before it could take another step, I sent two more spikes towards the thing. The speed of the ice gave the Ant no time to react, instead just screaming as the spikes stabbed through its eyes. The force of the attack ripped its head from its body, impaling it into the ground. The ant's body crashed to the grass as it died.
"Woo! Bullseye!" I cheered, jumping as I raised my fist in the air. Kite's eyes widened as he witnessed the attack, seeing as that was the first time he had seen me fight.
"Good job, Korudo!" Gon congratulated me as he grinned.
"Yeah, wouldn't expect any less from you." Killua sighed lightly, shaking his head with a small smile.
"Thank you, thank you." I messed around as I bowed before the two of them. Kite silently watched me, and he seemed consumed in his thoughts.
"That was impressive." He finally said, peering down at me.
"Aw, no need to be so kind." I snickered, playfully hitting the man's arm. He sighed, probably regretting his compliment.
"We're wasting time. Let's go." He stated before sprinting off again. The boy's and I ran after the man, hot on his tail.
We soon stumbled upon a village. I quickly noticed that it was abandoned, due to the absolute wreck it was in. We searched around the village, finding no trace of anything or anyone. We gathered back at the front, and Gon sniffed the air lightly.
"Something smells weird..." He muttered, and I blinked, turning to him. If his senses are picking up on something, it probably isn't good.
"Coming from over there." He pointed to a path leading to the forest, and we walked over to it. My eyes widened as I stared at the several dark blood trails leading further down the path.
"Inviting." I sarcastically mumbled, letting out a small sigh. I just love walking into pure danger.
We followed the trail deeper into the forest, soon coming upon a clearing. We stood in front of three large trees. The weird thing was the three full grown horses stabbed through each tree's trunk of full display. The smells emitting off the corpses were disgusting.
"Who's art project is this?" I raised a brow, staring up at the gruesome scene.
"It's like what a shrike does." Gon stated, a frown etched on his face.
"Huh?" Killua glanced at the boy, just as lost as me.
"There are birds called bull-headed shrikes. They impale their prey on sharp objects, such as branches." Kite explained, and I nodded slowly. Makes sense. Something tells me a bird could lift three whole horses, so it must've been a Chimera Ant.
