The Last Straw

He had been yelling at poor Mrs. Blackstone for half an hour and all because he wasn't going to agree to divorce. He wasn't going to get any of the money anyway and he was never a father figure to Meredith anyway and after her dad died Mrs. Blackstone had married a year later the man yelling at her right and the she screamed with her chef knife in hand and said "I'm Divorcing you get your stuff and get out I will send you the papers!!!!" Finally he huffed up the stairs and not an hour later was he gone. Meredith smiled lightly and said "I'm positive he'll be back idk for what but he'll keep trying to come back I just know it." "Then its time to reinstate Marcus and Harold and the chef and my other employees." There she stood the smiling Mrs. Blackstone that everyone loved."so what are you girls working on? " They hurriedly replied "science! We are working on science!" "Kay thanks mom glad he's gone bye see you in a little while!!" She laughed and closed the door to go down stairs. They looked at each other and burst out laughing and Casey said "Oh my god she believed that oh my god wow so what do we do next with operation Alley?!" And that's when it hit her she had to make subtle moves. "Oh my you thought of something!! What is it?! What!!!?" "I have to make subtle moves almost like seducing him! Wait no not seducing him. Just subtle moves." Meredith shook her head and smiled saying " Whatever you say your the one obsessed with him."

After 2 hours of thinking of ways to subtly make advances towards Mr. Alley Meredith and Casey got up and said their goodbyes to Mrs. Blackstone and headed out the door to the car and to Casey's house. Casey walked through the front door of her house to find her sister with one her gross new boyfriends in front of the TV watching a movie and kissing disgustingly. "Ew get a room you slut" and she bolted up to her room and locked the door behind her. She hated her sister her sister's name is Jolene and Jolene is Casey's least favorite name but her sister is even her lesser favorite person. Finally in her room Casey got on her laptop plugged her phone in to charge an grabbed her kindle and she set to work writing possible plans and things that were subtle but still got Mr. Alley's attention. She knew she should be doing hw but in a way this was homework. And she would have to study it to see what worked better than what. As soon as she was on Google Chrome her phone vibrated and she checked and it was him the him who liked her so much. TJ. She looked at the message and it said,

TJ: Hey how are you I didn't see you much today you ok?

C: Yea I'm great just was really swamped with classes today plus I had to stay after and write a paper for my English teacher.

TJ: Oh that stinks how long of a paper?

C: um... I wrote six pages. It was so easy.

TJ: Wow so guess what day tomorrow is!?

C: um... Thursday the 15th?

TJ: No. well yes, but no!!! Its a D day!! We have gym tomorrow!!! You want to be partners if we get split up in groups?

She stopped and realized that it was a gym day tomorrow she kicked herself mentally how could she have forgotten!! Its not that she wasn't good at sports she was excellent and she loved gym and she was on the school swim team and she loved playing house league soccer in the summer. But the thing about gym class was she had it with TJ and he has liked her since day one and she has and hasn't felt the same way and she doesn't want to break his heart because she's not that kind of person. Her phone vibrated again.

TJ: So do you? Wanna be partners in gym tomorrow?

C: Um... I guess yeah sure I'll be your partner and maybe Dyl and Rose would want to as well if we are put in groups. Well I gotta go I have hw. So I'll see you tomorrow.

TJ: ok bye see you

After that was done Casey got up and called Meredith.

M: hey what's up?

C: uh hi yeah so guess what just happened?

M: What?

C: T.J. texted me just a few minutes ago reminding me we have gym together tomorrow!!!

M: Oh my god you're kidding right?

C: No I'm not he can't wait to see me. Thats what he said.

M: Oh my god Casey you have to tell him your not into him.

C: I can't. I am not cruel like that.

M: Casey you have to.

C: I don't want to break his heart. He's cute to an extent but um....

M: But you're in love with a teacher.

C: I can't tell him that!!! What am I going to do.

M: I'll tell you what you're going to do. You Casey Bates are going to tell him no!!!

C: Meredith! Ugh. I have to go I have math hw to do.

She put her phone down and took out her math hw. It was going to be a long night.

Around 5 am Casey woke up in her desk chair. She looked out the window and saw it was pretty green for a mid-January day. She looked at the clock on wall said 5:15 am her alarm clock would be going off at 5:30 so she got her stuff for school together in her school bag. She went downstairs to find her mom already up feeding the cat. "Morning mom." "morning Casey you're taking your car today. You're officially unbanned from driving it and since your sister could have been but chose not to its back to being yours ok? She got grounded last night so its yours again." She beamed finally Casey was free to make her own choices again. "Thanks mom!!" She packed her lunch and got dressed and flew out the door to go to Tim Horton's just down the road to get breakfast and some donuts to take to school. She was anxious a little for fourth block gym class with TJ. She didn't know what to anticipate. It was gruelling. She looked at the time it was 5:50. School started at 7:20. It was going to be a long day.

Casey was bored waiting for the school to open so she hung out in her car and she slept a little also. Suddenly there was a knock on her window she sat up quickly startled and saw Mr. Alley standing there she rolled her window down and smiled saying "Hey Mr. Alley you startled me what's got you here so early?" He smiled back and said "I could ask you the same thing at 6:30 in the morning. I'm on my way in and I got up early this morning because I couldn't sleep. Would you like to walk in with me?" She smiled and nodded saying "Sure I got donuts at Tim Horton's would you like one?" As she got out if the car she gave him the box and he chose a chocolate glazed doughnut and replied "thank you chocolate glazed are my favorite." She laughed and said "mine too I've always loved glazed chocolate donuts." Then his cellphone buzzed and he sighed and said "sorry I have to take this." She nodded and walked behind him and heard him say "You what? But we made- no I made the- no- I cannot believe you!! A year!! A year!!! We've been together a year I made the reservations at that amazing place you wanted to go to!!! For tonight!! You know what this is the last straw!! I want your stuff gone when I get home later today!"

He hung up and what was once a wonderful smile on his amazing face was now a somber look and was full of heartbreak and disappointment. He turned and looked behind him to see Casey and said "I'm sorry you had to hear that. I-um... My ex girlfriend she um has been cheating on me. She's back with her old boyfriend and now I'm stuck with a reservation for two at the moonstruck restaurant in town. And i m gonna have to cancel-" "No you don't I can go with you I can be your number two. I can it could be professional." He looked at her gaping. It was no longer the last straw for him.
