Trust Issues (Book #1 of the Defy series)
Ace:
"Stardom."
"What", we all ask in unison. Waiting for Marty to explain what the heck Stardom was. He was all too happy to keep us in suspense. His love for the dramatics coming into play again.
It was like watching paint dry.
"Marty, either spit it out or I'm leaving to go pee." Hugo's blunt response and solid expression showed he wasn't in the joking kind of mood.
"Hugo, my man, give him a break... you know he's getting old and it takes him a little longer to get things done." Aaron thought his joke was so funny - right up until Marty's large hand made contact with his shoulder - giving it a hard squeeze.
Aaron winced and rubbed the offended limb.
He starts mumbling something about respecting boundaries. And it's all I can do not to laugh. Aaron doesn't even know what a boundary is.
"Alright, that's enough of that", Marty let out a sigh. " Stardom is a battle of the bands of sorts. And I have plans for you guys to join." His face breaks into an ear-splitting grin, that causes his wrinkles to tighten.
"What do we get out of it," Hugo asks, running his hands through his wet hair.
"More exposure. And possible worldwide recognition?"
Hugo moved as if to leave. Standing from his position on the couch.
"And - and a sweet cash prize and a handsome record deal." Marty did jazz hands as if to say 'surprise'.
"That's what I like to hear." Hugo sat back down.
"They are looking for people with the 'it' factor. You know. People they can root for - an underdog if you will." He walked around the room rubbing his beard. "You guys I think this is what you need. This is our chance to ride to the top."
Although DEFY has been getting more popular locally. We haven't achieved star quality status... yet. I mean it sounds like a nice deal. Even if we don't win we are getting exposure. And whether that's good or bad exposure is on us and what we can bring to the table.
"Well stay overtime today to discuss the specifics," I said finally joining the conversation. This could be huge, and as the leader, I had to get the details. I looked at my members, I could see the wheels turning in their heads.
They too knew the ramifications of something like this.
"Let's do this."
