"A- a- adopted?" I manage to stutter. I couldn't imagine it. I've been in the orphanage since I was a few months old. She nodded her head grimly. I screamed at the top of my lungs. "I'VE BEEN ADOPTED! I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!" I was so happy. It felt like my lungs were about to burst and I almost started crying. I was just so happy. I was adopted. I was going to have a family! I grabbed all my stuff from my wardrobe and shelf. I stuffed it in the duffel bag under my bed. I still didn't stop crying. I slowly let down my hair when I was not sleeping in... The first time forever. It fell almost to my waist (I never got it cut) it was really curly for all its years in braids. I grabbed the bag and ran into the lobby where my new guardian was to be waiting for me. He was a tall man. He had black hair and a kind face with wrinkles worn on his face from smiling and laughing. "Annette Windling?" He asked. I nodded my head. "That's me." He smiled and shook my hand. "I'm your new guardian. You can call me Mr. Shift." "Hello, mr. Shift. Nice to meet you." He took my hand. "Let's go home. I need to talk to you about some important.... Things." "Okay!" I squeaked. So, so, happy.
