A/N: I missed a week of updating because I have finals and they are eating every second of free time I have 😬

Emily's pov:
I woke up before JJ, which is very rare. She's way more of a morning person than I am. It was the second full night since we've been living with a toddler.

I looked over to the clock and saw it was around 9am. So I'm not up early, JJ's just sleeping in late.

I got up, and went to check on Cara. If she wakes up I'm not sure if she'd come and find us, because she's still not super comfortable here yet.

I walked to her room, cracking the door ever so slightly. I looked inside and saw she was fast asleep. I thought it was about weird because kids don't usually sleep in this late.

I went back into my bedroom and saw JJ beginning to wake up. She sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Good morning sleepy head." I smiled, leaning over and kissing her.

"You're awake before me? What kind of alternate universe is this?" She scoffed. "Mmm the kind where we have a toddler in our house."

JJ grinned. "I think I might like it then."

"It's 9am. You slept in late." I said. "It's 9?? Is Cara awake yet?" She freaked out. "Relax. I just checked on her, she's still out like a light. Just thought it was odd because you're such a morning person. Did you sleep okay?"

"Yeah. I woke up in the middle of the night because I heard Cara crying. She had a nightmare." She sighed. "JJ you should've woken me up. I could've tried to help."

"No it's okay. We managed. She fell back asleep after." JJ said. "That's good. Next time I can get up. It's not fair if you have to do it every time."

"It wasn't too bad." She shrugged. "Mhm. Just wait until you do it every single day. I know you like to think you're a super hero, but you do need to sleep."

"Like to think?" She rolled her eyes. "I am a superhero."

"You're my hero." I smiled, leaning forward and kissing her.

Our room suddenly filled with the sound of wailing coming from monitor. Since we were both awake we both ran into her room.

She was so perfectly still five minutes ago, but now she was thrashing around and screaming. "No! No! Away!"

JJ went over to her side and scooped her into her arms. "Cara. Wake up baby." She whispered.

Cara made an attempt to slap her, but her tiny hand couldn't do much damage. I sat on the other side of JJ, and gently brushed the little girls hair back. "You're safe. It's okay."

Cara's eyes slowly opened as she looked at her surroundings. "JJ?" She shrieked. "JJ! Find me!"

"I'm right here Cara. It's okay." JJ cooed. Cara looked up to who's arms she was in and realized JJ was right next to her.

She pushed herself into JJ's chest. I rested my hand on her back, rubbing it lightly. "Did you have a scary dream?" I asked her.

"Scared." She mumbled. "It's okay, you're safe here. No one's going to hurt you." JJ said, kissing the top of her head.

"Let go eat some breakfast, yeah?" JJ said. Cara buried her head in JJ's shoulder as she lifted her up, and carried her downstairs.

JJ set her down on the island and started looking though the cabinets. "What about pancakes?" She suggested. Cara nodded, still very quiet.

"Need any help?" I asked her. "Mmm but I really like this house and it would be a shame if it burned down." She contemplated it. I rolled my eyes. "Fine. Suit yourself."
