Devin POV
What did I just do? What the hell is wrong with me? I ran my fingers through my hair over and over again. I must be crazy for even thinking of doing that, much less actually doing it.
I groaned. It didn't mean anything; I was just caught up in the moment. She’s on drugs. That’s why she didn’t stop me. We have nothing in common. We've never felt attracted to each other, at least I hadn't. Plus, she and I were on different sides. She was the cop who caught people like me. I had nothing to worry about, at least relationship wise. Life choice wise, well...let’s just say it need some work.
I was just teasing her like I usually do. Why am I worrying?
I shook my head. Stop overthinking it. I needed to get myself together before she comes back.
She opened the door two minutes later, wearing a navy blue shirt and black leather pants. She wore a holster and I saw her discreetly pack her gun in it. There was a gun in that bag. A gun. I didn’t even look to see what was in it. I wanted to slap my forehead.
She zipped up her boots and looked up at me. “You ready to go?”
“Where are we going?”
“The police station. I want to read your report. You also have to tell me about the information you have.”
I raised an eyebrow. “You want to do all of that today? You just got out of the hospital.”
“That won't stop me and it shouldn’t stop you either. Do you have a cruiser with you?”
“It’s the one thing they trust me with.” I dangled the keys in front of her face. When she grabbed for it, I pulled it back.
“Devin, give it to me.”
“Sorry, I’m driving.”
She scrunched up her eyebrows and pouted unconsciously. “Says who?”
“Says the guy with the keys.” She huffed and crossed her arms but kept walking. I chuckled and kept pace with her. “Come on, you just got out of the hospital after fainting and hitting your head. I’m not letting you anywhere near the wheel.”
She scowled. “Why do you even care?”
“I don’t know, maybe it’s because I don’t want to get into an accident,” I replied sarcastically, “but that’s just a thought.”
“Whatever, Rogers.”
She sat in the passenger seat while I started the car. We were quiet for a couple minutes; the only sound was coming from the radio. She rolled down her window and let the breeze swoosh around her. She looked so beautiful.
What? I just convinced myself that I have no feelings for her literally 2 minutes ago and now she's 'beautiful'? I clenched my hands tighter on the wheel. No, stop thinking that way.
I sighed. Alice turned her head and watched me, her eyes questioning. I looked back at her for a second before looking away again.
I tried changing the channel on the radio. “Why can’t I find a good station?” I thought aloud.
“Because this is a police car and most of the channels are police communication stations.”
I groaned. “Of course.”
