Alice POV

               “I still refuse.”

“You don’t really have time to complain,” Will said, leaning against the door with his arms crossed.

I turned away from the mirror in my office and faced him. “If you were in my place, Will, you would be trying your best to get out of this.”

“He’s not that bad; just give him a chance.”

“I’m sorry, but I think he had several chances to redeem himself. If he even had a sliver of humanity, he wouldn’t be in the business he’s in now.”

He walked over to where I was standing and fidgeted with the pens on the table. “Sometimes people make bad decisions because of something in their past. It seems like he just has a lot going on, you know?”

“All I know is he’s an asshole, and he will not be gaining any sympathy from me.”

He shrugged. “Whatever you say, Alice, either way, you still have to pretend to be his girlfriend.”

I groaned. “Can we please not talk about that?”

He chortled. “You’re leaving today. When are you going to accept it?”

            “Never.”

He leaned over to messup my hair. “You’ll never change.”

I tried straightening out my hair back to its original form. “I can’t help it.”

“Do you have all your stuff?”

“When have I ever left anything behind? I’m about as organized as Devin is evil.” I said, earning a wry laugh from Will.

He walked over and gave me a hug. “You’re getting a raise out of this, so don’t act like it’s complete torture. I know you’ll do great.”

I sighed and hugged him back. I rested my head against his chest and felt it rise and fall. “Do you think Dad would be proud of us? Of me?” I said suddenly.

He pulled me back. “Of course! How could he not? He’s probably dancing with joy.”

“Oh, god,” I laughed, “He couldn’t dance for his life. He’s probably creating a traffic jam or something.”

He laughed with me. “He probably is. He had a way of getting people’s attention.”

“He really did.” I felt tears in my eyes.

Of course, Devin decided it was the perfect time to walk in.

“Hey, Gilmore, the chief’s looking for you,” he stated, staring at the tangled mess Will and I were in.

“Right,” Will said, clearing his throat and pulling away from me, “I’ll get on it. See you later, Alice.”

            I waved. “See you.”

Devin made a face. “What?” I asked, raising my eyebrow.

            “Nothing.”

I looked back to where Will left. “Do you have a problem with Will?”

He immediately looked back at me. “No, not at all...”
