Darius: "We thought it'd be fun. We thought we'd be safe, but... we didn't realise the... horror waiting for us on the island. Claws... teeth... screaming, so much screaming."
Darius, Kenji, Ben, Sammy, and Brooklynn were all huddled around a campfire. Why the treehouse was built with a section for a fire was beyond them all, but they enjoyed it none the less.
Ben: "How much screaming?"
Ben was clutching tightly onto Kenji's arm as Darius told his story, very scared by the tale.
Kenji: "Shh! He's getting to the good part."
Darius: "The t-rex stalked closer. Her jaws opened wide."
He stopped as the flash of Brooklynn's camera illuminated his face, breaking all the suspense he'd build up through his story. They all looked at her.
Brooklynn: "For the vlog. Keep telling your little story."
He flipped his hood back up, coving most of his face in shadow and adding to the eerie fire-lighting.
Kenji: "Oh, here we go."
Given his experiences with dinosaurs, Kenji was the most excited for the story as he could have the thrill of it without the danger.
Darius: "The t-rex sta-"
Brooklynn: "Dang!"
Kenji groaned in frustration.
Brooklynn: "Out of space. Wait, I'm sorry, hold on. I just don't wanna delete my selfie on Everest, you know?"
Darius: "Maybe I should start over."
Ben: "No! In fact, you can just stop."
Kenji: "Dude, chill. He's not even telling the story right now. And how is your grip this strong?"
He tried to pull his arm away from Ben, having no success.
Darius: "So, the t-rex stalked-"
Sammy: "Shouldn't we call Yasmina over? I bet she'd love this story."
Darius flopped onto the bench, very annoyed. Yasmina was leaning over the railing, staring at something in her hand.
Brooklynn: "Maybe she wants to be by herself."
Sammy turned back to the others, very confused.
Sammy: "I don't understand."
Kenji: "You know how sometimes people just wanna be left alone?"
He directed his last words at Ben, who ignored him and stayed clutched to the older boys arm.
Sammy burst out laughing.
Sammy: "Kenji, you're hilarious. I think she's just shy and doesn't know how to make camp friends."
The boom of thunder startled her, rain following soon after. They all ran inside, except Darius, who stayed looking up at the night sky. As they left, he heard Brooklynn saying they had wasted their time.
Yasmina sat down on one of the couches far from the others, rubbing the book she had with her sleeve. Sammy appeared next to her, startling the athlete.
Sammy: "You need a friend!"
Yas: "What?"
Sammy: "I'm such a ding-dong! You're alone. And when I feel alone, having a friend around sure is nice. I could use a friend, and you probably could too. So I thought, "Wait, Yasmina just needs someone to make the first friendship move," so, here I am!"
