The jungle was never silent at night.
Buzzing insects, rustling leaves, and often the far-off footsteps of something large and powerful, there was never a moment of true silence on Isla Nublar.
Sammy and Darius kept walking, knowing that the end of Tiff's cattle prod was less than a foot behind them, with Mitch and his rifle just a foot away. They had no choice but to just keep walking.
Mitch: "Look, babe, all I'm saying is that maybe you could've handled it better."
She scoffed, taking her eyes off the kids for the first time in almost an hour.
Tiff: "Excuse me?"
Mitch: "Now, wait. Wait. Don't get mad."
He fumbled over his words, rushing and panicked.
Tiff: "Don't get mad? Right, because I'm not allowed to have my own..."
The kids stopped listening, whispering hurriedly to each other.
Sammy: "Okay, step one is take their guns away. What do we do after that?"
Darius: "We run."
Sammy: "But what if the T-rex shows up?"
Darius: "Run faster and hope it chases them."
Sammy: "Your plans are sounding too much like Y/n's for my liking."
Tiff: "-My fault the girl got away? Because it was my idea to bring these kids along? Just like it was my idea to celebrate our last anniversary with our families. You know your mother hates me."
Seeming more than eager to change the subject, Mitch shouted out to the kids.
Mitch: "How much farther to the watering hole? And what are you two whispering about?"
Darius: "I was just saying it's right through here."
Tiff: "We're here?"
All their animosity seemed to have dissipated. They both had the look of a kid in a candy store.
They walked through the last thicket of trees and stopped.
The sight before them was far from the watering hole. It was the ruined, chaotic maze of rubble and Jurassic World memorabilia of Main Street.
Mitch: "This isn't the watering hole. Does this look like the watering hole, babe?"
Tiff: "Sure doesn't, babe."
-----
Brooklynn: "Yaz, you should know –"
Yasmina: "No time. We have to figure out what Darius' plan is."
Brooklynn: "What? He's taking Tiff and Mitch to Main Street."
But Yasmina wasn't paying attention. She had heard footsteps. She fell and crawled back, seeing the ankylosaur move closer and closer, the ground rumbling under her footsteps.
Yasmina: "Bumpy?"
Then she looked higher.
Ben was sat lust behind her unevenly horned head, holding his spear. He jumped off, Kenji attempting the same, but slipping and falling as he landed.
Ben: "Hey."
She was completely silent. Ben cleared his throat and held out a hand.
Ben: "Yasmina."
Immediately, he was wrapped in a tight hug.
Ben: "You're a hugger now, Fadoula?"
She pulled away, smiling widely.
