A Week Later
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching.
A holiday that is usually one of my favorites has now become one that I dread.
Every year since Phoebe was born, my parents would have us over, including Anne, Gemma and her husband, for dinner and we would spend the day at a Pumpkin Patch or apple picking and then come home for the football game and then dinner.
Although this year won't be much different, the company will be.
I assume that Harry will be joining his family and I can't help but think about the way it used to be.
Before he left, both of our families enjoyed holidays together. It's always been the three of them and when me and Harry started dating, my mother insisted on them tagging along.
My parents always adored Harry's family and that never changed when he left. My mom and Anne became good friends. Gemma became like a big sister to me, even though I don't see her as often now that she's married and living on her own.
But I love holidays and I refuse to let anything go wrong.
"What time's your client coming in?" Maya asks from the station next to me as I set up for my first client for the day.
"Nine." I say.
"We haven't talked much in a while, I miss you. Can I come over tonight?" She leans against my station.
"Maya, when do you ever ask to come over?" I laugh. "Is everything alright?"
She pauses like she wants to tell me something but hesitates.
"Yeah, everything's good, just had some things going on." Her eyes cast down to the floor
"Oh... well if you want to talk about it, I'm always available." I assure her.
"I know you are. We'll talk tonight." She nods.
"Also, I've had some ideas for the salon, and I really think we should be getting started on everything really soon."
