"No. No Genevieve. You're not going." I asked Maya to come over and watch Phoebe for a little bit, leaving out the reason until she got here.
Luckily she didn't question it when I asked her. She just said yes and got here as soon as she could.
If I told her before she got here, she would have refused and not let me go. Just like she's trying to do right now.
"I have to, Maya. I can't just avoid this."
"Like he avoided you for three years? You don't owe him this."
"Yes, I know that..." I say. "But he owes me."
"He hurt you Gen. Real bad." She pleads. "I can't just sit here and watch him do it again, especially now that Phoebe is involved."
"I won't let him. He's not gonna get close enough to hurt me again, I promise. I just need to know why. I deserve to know why." It's true though. All I want is an explanation from him. That's all I need and I can finally move on with my life and he can move on with his.
I doubt he's going to quit with his rich and famous lifestyle to stay and get to know Phoebe. Surely he has bigger and better things to do. Why would he when he has a big mansion, supermodels, luxury cars, and screaming fans waiting for him back home?
As much as I would love for Phoebe and I to be enough for him, and at one point I would begged and pleaded to be enough but I'm not enough so what's the point?
If I make him stay, he's eventually going to resent me for it and leave us behind. I won't be able to handle it again, I just won't.
So the only way to go about this is get my explanation and leave. Not letting him tear down the walls I've built around the two of us.
"Please don't let him back in." Maya says. "At the first sign of remorse, you'll forgive him. I know you too well, G."
