Did some things you can't speak of

But at night you live it all again

You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now

If only you had seen what you know now then

Wasn't it easier in your firefly-catchin' days?

And everything out of reach

Someone bigger brought down to you

Wasn't it beautiful runnin' wild 'til you fell asleep

Before the monsters caught up to you?

A week later

"Good morning, baby." I gently nudge Phoebe awake.

Her body stirs around as she tries to stay asleep. She never has been a morning person.

I rub my fingers across her back and brush her tangled hair out of her face. "Phoebs baby, we gotta get ready for school."

"Momma baby, I'm tired." Her voice quietly cracks out.

"I know Bug, I know." I tell her. "I let you sleep in a little bit longer today."

Her eyes are still closed, her grip still clung onto her stuffed elephant 'Oscar'.

"But guess what!" I whisper. "Today is Friday and we get to have a fun night together!"

Her eyes squint open.

"What do you say? I can even make us some oreo milkshakes and we can watch Disney movies all night long!"

"Okay Momma." She whispers out, I can tell she got excited, but her tired body doesn't show it.

"Okay, baby. How about you get up and out of bed and we can pick out your outfit and do your hair for the day?"

She hesitates for a moment. Laying there under her Tinkerbell covers, slowly blinking herself awake. I don't rush her and let her take her time because I know once I say something, she'll start her process over and take even longer.

She's like me in that way.

Such a stubborn girl.

She slowly sits up and rubs her hands over her eyes.
