Dear...

Ajax's hand shook. He erased the 'A' he'd written previously, addressing the letter to someone else instead.

Dearest Teucer,
Hey, buddy! Happy ninth birthday! I'm sending you a present along with this letter, let Anthon know so he gives it to you.
I get that you might not want to hear from me, but it's been a while, so I figured I would reach out. I miss you. I hope you miss me, too, buddy. Remember the sleepovers we used to have? We'd stay up all night playing in the snow, drinking hot cocoa, then burrowing into our pillow forts. Those were good times, no? I cherish those memories in my heart.
I know I've apologized before, but Teucer, I am so so sorry for what I did to you during my time in the Fatui. I left right after that; I never wanted to put you in danger again. I misjudged the morality of our actions. You don't have to forgive me by any means, just know that I am forever apologetic, and forever regretful.
Happy birthday, buddy. No matter what happens, I always love you, and I will always be here for you if ever you need me.
Enjoy your day. You deserve it.
Yours faithfully,
Your loyal knight

P.S. let me know if you like your gift! I got it special ordered ;)

Pursing his lips, Ajax gingerly held the Ruin Guard toy in his hand. He spent a hefty portion of his commission Mora on it; no toy makers on the market sold anything like it. It was specially made with adjustable arms and legs so that Teucer's possibilities with the toy were endless. Plus, he was getting older, so he could use it as simply a figurine if he liked. Ajax knew gifts couldn't make up for the damage he caused, but Teucer was still young. Perhaps it could be a start.

"Mr. Childe?" Evan asked, knocking on the door frame. Childe spun in his seat and rested his arms on the back of his chair.

He swallowed the lingering pain in his heart, "How are you, Ev?"

"I'm fine, um, I was just letting you know that I'm gonna go out. I thought since Mike and Liz are going to that party, I would—"

"Hold on, you mean you're going out alone?" Childe asked, looking at him incredulously.

"Yes?" Evan squirmed under his gaze.

The man laughed, "No, you're not. Wait for me, I'll be ready in a second. I have to go out to send this letter, anyway."

Evan pursed his lips, but rolled the annoyance away with his eyes, "What's it for?"

Childe smiled, "My brother. His birthday is coming up, so I want to make sure I get him something good. It's the least I could do after what happened..."

The boy nodded, "I remember. I heard you say it when you were talking to Michael that one day after training."

"You did?" his eyes widened, "Then I guess you know why it's so important, comrade."

Evan rocked on his heels, "Well, maybe you should get ready, so we can leave soon."

"Yeah, you're right," Childe sighed, twisting the edges of the paper in his fingers, "Just give me five minutes, I'll be right out."

Nodding, Evan walked away from Childe's bedroom, quietly creeping towards the front door. Elizabeth, Michael, and Kaeya were gathered around the table eating, so he crawled against the walls to block himself from their view. From the floor, he reached up to gingerly turn the door knob, escaping through the small crack he created. After he shut the door, he celebrated his victory with a grin and ran down the apartment complex.

Meanwhile, Kaeya raised an eyebrow at the door.

"Is Childe messing with us again?"

"I guess so," Michael shrugged, then called, "Evan! Come get breakfast!"
