• Chapter Three •

Today was April's fifth day at Laminax Laboratory. She had already ran through her morning test. It wasn't all that interesting. Just seeing if a goo called 'Fed' liked one fedora over another. Fed wasn't much of anything special, just a dark grey wolf with pinkish eyes and a fancy looking fedora that they wore everywhere.

April sighed as she went to the cafeteria to go grab some lunch. Hmmm... What should I eat today? A hamburger? No, I had that yesterday. A salad? Not in the mood for that right now. Alfredo? Actually, that doesn't sound half bad...

After receiving her alfredo, she sat down to eat at an empty table. The only thing really dirty about it was that it had a lemon slice on a seat. April shrugged it off. The custodians must've not gotten to this table yet.

As she was about to finish up the last of her alfredo, the intercom system went off. Attention all Laminax employees, a purple slime pup has escaped containment. We request you be on the lookout for it. If sighted, please bring it to Dr. Silver. Thank you. The intercom then shut off.

April chuckled. Slime pups were sneaky little rascals, but they really couldn't kill anything. They were too small to do so. But boy could they tear stuff up. Yesterday, Jay had told her how once when testing, a slime pup tore a pillow to shreds. And most of them had the personality of a pomeranian. But nonetheless, they were cute little things.

April had finished up her alfredo and was now heading to the dish disposal. After putting the dish up, she walked down the hallway to the testing rooms for afternoon testing.

Today's afternoon test was seeing what type of music a Jammer liked best. They had connected Bluetooth headphones to a phone and had given the headphones to the Jammer for it to wear.

First, they tried classical, which the Jammer frowned at. Then they tried Jazz, which just made the Jammer sit there. But when they tried country, the Jammer covered its ears and made some sort of hissing noise. April laughed at this, she had something in common with this Jammer. And when they tried pop, the Jammer closed his eyes and smiled, signaling he liked that type of music. It did the same thing with hip-hop. However, the funniest part to April was when they tried rock. The Jammer headbanged so hard it nearly threw the headphones right off of it's head! But after that, the test was concluded, with a person named Sol getting the highest score on the report.

April has pretty high regards for Sol. Unlike most other scientists, Sol acted as if the goos were other people, just like they were. Of course, April acted the same way, being as she saw all goos had a personality.

As April went back down to the cafeteria to take a break, she saw Dr. Silver. April shrugged, walking towards her to ask if she had gotten her slime pup under control yet. "Hey Dr. Silver, have you found that slime pup that was mentioned this morning?" Dr. Silver shook her head. "Unfortunately not. I'm just hoping he hasn't gotten himself into some sort of mischief yet." April laughed. "Yep, you know slime pups! Getting into whatever they can get thier paws on." Dr. Silver chuckled. "That's right! Just be sure that if you see him, bring him back to me please." April nodded before continuing to walk to the cafeteria.

Owning a slime pup like that just had to be hard work. Everyone who has owned one always says it's like taking care of three puppies! April laughed to herself as she walked up to the counter. "Hello, may I have one strawberry donut and a glass of milk please?" The guy on the other side nodded and dashed off into the kitchen.

After waiting a few minutes, she had her order and was now sat down and eating it. As she ate, she tried to remember her next test. She vaguely remembered it being about which flowers smelled better to a Plantix. As she finished up her donut and milk, she looked at the clock on the wall, realized she still had some time left of her break time. She figured she would go start at the crystals in the crystal cavern for the remaining amount of time she had.

Then a flicker of anger sparked in her mind. She was salty about not being able to even go near the crystals. They were one of the best things to exist in this facility so far, and she wasn't able to go past the barrier? All she wanted to do was to see a better view of the cavern. She didn't want to just see it through the purple haze of a barrier. She wanted to see how truly blue the crystals were, how sparkly they could be, and how big they were when you got a close up view of them. She sighed in aggravation, then checked the clock on the wall. Yep, it was time for the Plantix test. Grumbling angrily, April walked swiftly down the hallway to the testing rooms.

April had just gotten out from the Plantix test. All they did was provide a Plantix with five different types of flowers: Roses, daisys, tulips, dandelions, and a strange pink flower. All in all, the Plantix ended up liking the roses the best. But it was rather boring to sit there and watch a Plantix do its everyday activity of stopping to smell the flowers. And during April's last mini break, she didn't go to the cafeteria. All she wanted to do was look at the crystals for 30 minutes straight. And that's exactly what she was about to do.

While sitting there, the announcement about the loose purple slime pup came into her mind again. They still haven't made an announcement that they found it yet... Was it still on the loose, running rampant through the laboratory? She sighed, getting up. Then she started to wonder around the laboratory, looking for the purple slime pup.

After walking around for 15 minutes, she still hadn't found it. She blinked, getting an idea of where it might be. No one would think to check the electrical room, right? Then it hit her. Slime pups were good at tearing up things. What if it was tearing up wires in the electrical room? If the power went out, all the goos could be set free, including the aggressive ones! In a panic, April ran down the hallways, making her way to the other side of the laboratory.

She only got held up once. It was when a guard asked where she was going in such a hurry. She responded in a quick manner, trying to make it down there so if the slime pup was down there, the power wouldn't go out. And she would have also preferred that she got this done before her break was over.

As she got to the electrical room, she fumbled around, trying to figure out where she put her high-level enterance keycard. She rarely ever used it, so it might've been at home. But she sighed out in relief when she found it in her back pocket.

After opening the door, there it was. A slime pup, chewing on the electrical wires. But before she could grab the pup, she heard a snap noise. Looking down at where the slime pup was a jumble of broken wires.

However, just as the noise had happened, she heard the intercom go off: Sudden disturbance in the power grid. Activating low power outage mode. Please get into a safety bunker in the meanwhile. Then it shut off. April grabbed the slime pup and bolted out of the room, trying not to get blamed. After running a bit, she set the slime pup down and went into full panic mode. Now how do I get out of this one?
