The DUFF... a fanfic adaptation

STEP ONE

"Kook... unDUFF me..."

"A... how the hell can I do that?" Jungkook asked with furrowed brows.

"I don't know... you're the one who knows what a DUFF is... so maybe you can change me out of it." You insisted.

"A... I don't think that's a good idea. I mean, everybody likes you the way you are... do you really want to change yourself? And for what?" Jungkook says with concern in his eyes.

"Kook... all my teenage life, people have been nice to me, not because they like me but because they like my friends. Is it so bad to change myself so that they will like me too?"

"A... do you really want to make that big step?" He asked hesitantly.

"All this time, I've been doing things for others... Now, I want to do it for myself... and I can't do it alone Kook... I need your help... Please?"

"How can I say no to that?" He said with an exasperated look.

"Step one... overall look. Not that I don't dig your style but... you dress so casually. You have to amp up the look so you'd give a good impression from the get go."

You're trying to hide your laughter as Jungkook drives you to the mall. It's a Saturday so you have the entire afternoon to spend. He becomes suspicious of your silence and found you holding back your laughter as he eyes you from his seat.

"What's so funny?" He snapped at you.

"That grandpa word dig just doesn't suit your heartthrob personality." You said laughing.

"Shut up!" He said pretending to be irritated at you as he pulled in the mall parking.

"Yes sir!" You salute him teasingly to which he responded by tapping your forehead with a finger playfully.

You went in the mall and everyone is just drooling over the dreamboat you're with. Jungkook looks so confident in his white shirt, ripped jeans and sneakers. He walked like a runway model oblivious to the eyes of spectators around him.

You're just watching him from the back as you follow from behind. This guy is really drawing attention anywhere he went. Is that how it feels not to be a DUFF? Not that you want the same attention from everyone but it just feels nice to be liked without having to lift a finger.

In your situation, it must be so nice to be approached by people not because they need to get to your friends. Thinking back on all those times that you thought everyone really liked you for you makes you regret not realizing it until Jungkook told you.

You were so caught up in your own thoughts that you didn't realize walking towards Jungkook's back when he did a sudden stop. "The f*ck Kook!" You blurt out in pain, rubbing your forehead before slapping his rigid back with an open palm.

"Watch where you're going then..." He says chuckling down at you while he towers over your petite body.

"Why did you suddenly stop anyway?"

"We're here!" He gestures towards the shop in front of you.

"Oh no Jeon... I won't spend my life savings on clothes that cost as much as my college tuition... Nope! We're out of here." You said with big hand gestures. This shop has an array of trendy brands that teens are crazy for but not you.

You turned to leave but was instantly stopped by Jungkook catching your wrist, pulling you towards him. Being the clumsy DUFF you are, you slam into him with a thud. "I never took you for someone who likes it rough A..." He says teasingly.

He pulls away only to get to your back and hold on to either side of your upper arms. He lowers his head to whisper in your ear directly. "Don't worry about paying... consider this your birthday treat."

"Jeon, I don't have a good feeling about this." You said in protest as you look up to that intimidating signboard. You can already hear the chimes from the cash register in your head.

"You want me to carry you inside instead?" He teased you once more but this time he was totally leaning to your side and was about to scoop you off the ground.

"Don't you dare Jeon!" You whisper yell to him, as a crowd seems to gather around you.

"It's your choice babe..." He replies with a smirk before giving you a naughty wink that almost made you throw up.

"Let's just go okay?" You suddenly blurt out before pulling him by the arm to enter the shop.

Jungkook couldn't help but laugh at your sudden change of decision and just lets you pull him with you. He could see the other girls murmuring from around you so he made sure everyone hears what he was about to say. "Babe, slow down... I know you love to go faster but let's keep that reserved for something else."

As expected, the girls who've been eyeing him almost wanted to snatch him away from your grip but you were quick to pull him by his collar, this time to strangle him a bit. That serves him right for giving everyone a show at your expense.
