There are no words to describe the horrible pain yet to come.

Nine Days Before
She was gone. Without a trace, that is. Jake had never seen Florence after the party, and neither had anyone else. She was gone.

Jake went home that night, screaming unintelligible things. Jaylnn stayed away from him, not wanting to upset his brother even more. But unlike Jaylnn, their father had other plans.

He opened Jake's door.

At school, Jake wrote. He wrote in
his journal in the class he shared with Florence, trying to forget her absence. The words on his paper began to blur as his eyes brimmed with tears, and he looked up, trying to keep them from rolling down his cheeks. He missed her, and his back hurt so much that he couldn't even lean back in his chair.

It seemed as if no one else knew she was gone. Jake began to wonder who was with her, and why she left the room. It didn't make sense. Maybe she had to throw up, and accidentally went into another bedroom. He wanted answers, needed them.

Where could she be?

Who hurt her?

He would never figure out the
answers to the stream of questions swirling in his brain.

The bell rang, signaling the students to move to their next class. Jake gathered his journal and textbooks, accidentally leaving a folded piece of paper behind.

It was his fault. He should of stayed awake, should have waited for her to wake up. But he didn't. He should have, but he didn't. He could have...but he didn't.

Jake was oblivious to someone typing his words four houses away from him. If only he knew the anger and dread he would feel towards himself in a few short hours.
