                 Blind Date Part V

On her way to work, all these things weighed heavily on her mind. She started to think of all the times she had her heart broken. It seemed she could never find real love. Things never worked out in her favor. Almost every relationship was this way. Was it her fate to never find the real thing? When she arrived at work, she went to her office to review her patients' charts. There, she could have some peace and quiet. That was, until her ex walked in and had a seat in front of her desk.

"How did your little date go last night?" he asked, in a nonchalant way. "I hear he's some hotshot lawyer."

"How did you know that my date was last night? You know what, never mind. I don't care how you found out. I don't even want to know why you're here. Get out of my office." She walked over to her filing cabinet.

"I take it things didn't go well. I knew it would be a waste of your time. You don't have to keep going on these blind dates.  You don't have to go searching for another man." He got up and walked over to her. "Your man is right here."

"I can't believe you have the audacity to come in here and tell me you're still my man! You said we needed some time apart and now you want us to get back together?" She pushed in the file cabinet that separated them and stepped in his face. "Get a clue. We're over! You and I have nothing else to talk about. Didn't I tell you to get the hell out of my office? Why are you still here?"

"I know you're mad. You have every right to be. The way I've treated you the last few weeks is unforgivable. I understand why you felt like you had to go out on that date. Please give me another chance. I'm sorry, I was stupid. It shouldn't have taken you going out with another man for me to realize that!" he pleaded with her.

She tried to walk away. He grabbed her upper arm. He looked into her eyes. Chris had never grabbed her like that before.

"I'm sorry! What do I have to do to get you to forgive me?" He squeezed. "I'll do anything you say."

Niyah was speechless. He really wanted her back. Chris let her go and stormed out of her office. She stood there, shaking as her phone rang.

 "Dr. O'Neal."

"Why haven't you called me to tell me about your date? I stayed up half the night wondering what happened." She had a seat. "It's almost noon and you still haven't called me." It wasn't hard to tell Emonie was vexed. "By the way, Allen said he had a wonderful time."

"I'm sorry," she said, with no emotion in her voice. "I wanted to call you as soon as my date was over. It was late when I got home.  I thought you were asleep."  Niyah tried to explain.

"Chris just marched into my office. Emonie, he knows about my date. I don't even know how he found out. He said he was sorry and he wanted us to get back together." She paused and took a deep breath.

"Not  to  mention  Michael  still  isn't speaking to me."

She was being pulled in so many different directions all at once. "Michael was up when I got home. We got into it. Now you're calling me, bitching because I haven't called you and told you what happened? Emonie, I'm having a really bad day. Please don't make it worse," she said, trying not to break down.

"I'm sorry, I had no idea. I was anxious to hear what happened. Chris wants you back?"

"What if I'm not over him? In my head, I know he's a dog, but my heart might still love him. Emonie, he was begging me to take him back. He still makes me feel weak in my knees. I thought the date with Allen would help me move on."
